REASONS TO STAY IN IRELAND

I am just about to finish college in a month, not sure what I am going to do with myself. So many people have moved abroad. Are there any reasons or perks to staying in Ireland? Does anyone think I will find a job, not picky.

I had a lot of trouble just securing work placement for my course (where I was offering to pay to work for nothing), so I'm not hopeful of getting a full-time job after I graduate. For me I don't see any future in this country anymore, and I'm sure a lot of people our age would agree. I've another year to go but my plan is to stick it out for around 6 months after I graduate and see if I can get anything, and if not I'm off.

Well just how 'not picky' are you? Willing to work for minimum wage?

I'd encourage most young people to emigrate and hope the job market rebounds in 5 years time. In the meantime our young graduates will get meaningful experience abroad and then return to help the economic rebirth.

The only reason i can see of staying in Ireland is that your friends, family and boyfriend/girlfriend (if you have one) are here. You also may actually like the place, i know i do. With regards to work / a career here, at the moment for a recent graduate its a hard find. Its an employers market and unless youre top of your class with some experience then its unlikely. You're also competing with others who have been let go, people with 10 years experience in the field etc. Also the phrase its not what you know but who you know as never been more apt. Theres alot of competition for so few jobs so i would advise seeking employment elsewhere

By elsewhere i mean the likes of Australia, Canada, New Zealand but the problem with that is you need in the region of €5k or more to do it. Visas, accomodations, flights. Do your research before you head over, find out what regions/cities are booming in your profession. Stay with friends over there if you can and hit the ground running. Check out the abroad section on boards to see how people are getting on in the above countries, you'll get more tips, do's and dont's,you'll learn how other people made the journey.

Depending how things work out in the next few months i may be making the same journey, bitterly.

    Good luck
