Sexton's Place Kicking

Have you noticed how long Sexton takes for his place kicks? On Saturday, if you check on RTE Player, he opted to take a penalty kick at 13 minutes 22, got the kicking tee at 13.27, and he kicked it at 14.34. I thought the limit was 60 seconds, maybe I'm wrong .......

With the ref + officials picking up very marginal forward passes and pinging England for being in front of the kicker at kick-off, it can't be long before Sexton gets pinged for taking too long.

A here, give the guy a break. There's criticism and then there's this...

LOL. I really feel sorry that Sexton is going to have to put up with this sort of clutching at straws criticism for the rest of his career.

There is no reason that this warrants a thread of its own or even a discussion, but I did notice that he takes a while over the ball.

Was there something delaying him placing the tee for the first 30 seconds? There was a replay going on at the time. Reasonably valid point actually, there is a time limit and it would be an absurd thing to get pulled up for.

I think you are getting the wrong end of the stick. I'm a huge Sexton fan, but I am simply stating a rule that sooner or later may be thrown at him.

    Rule 21.4(b) states:
No delay. If a kicker indicates to the referee the intention to kick a penalty kick at goal, the kick must be taken within one minute from the time the player indicates the intention to kick at goal. The intention to kick is signalled by the arrival of the kicking tee or sand, or when the player makes a mark on the ground. The player must complete the kick within one
minute even if the ball rolls over and has to be placed again. If the one minute is exceeded, the kick is disallowed, a scrum is ordered at the place of the mark and the opponents throw in the ball. For any other type of kick, the kick must be taken without undue delay.

He is simply soooooooo slow, I wish it were not so .........

Against Wales there was 2 minutes after O'Driscoll's try before ROG actually took the conversion. Now unless the tee took one minute to get to ROG then he went over the 60 seconds as well.

Will I start a thread on that as well? The ref wont blow it up unless your taking the absolute piss, going a few seconds over the minute isn't going to warrant the ref to blow the whistle.

blatant time wasting if you ask me.

who does he think he is taking 72 seconds for his goalkicking when is only allowed 60.

he owes me 12 seconds of my life back

There is no need to start a ROG v Sexton debate at every available opportunity. :(

Ah now. Hang on a minute! ;)

Well, I've heard it all now!!

Most ridiculous thread I've read on here in a long time. I'm sure every kicker in the world has gone over the 1 minute on numerous occasions. To try and find a fault in Sexton's, or any other 10's, game like this is pure juvenile and pathetic IMO.

Its juvenile until he gets pinged for taking too long and we end up missing out on an easy conversion or penalty. Its hardly the biggest issue facing the Ireland team but probably still worth keeping in mind, wasn't the lineout penalised for messing about too long and not getting into place on Saturday?

Silly to start this thread about Sexton, most kickers take a long time over kicks, but its a valid point about how long kicks take - like scrums they do take a lot of time out of the game. I personally think the clock should be stopped once a penalty is given or try awarded and restarted once the kicker strikes the ball. More time for the rest of the game then, and the ball will be in play more = better game for spectators IMO.

The problem is that all outhalfs do it. I checked just one of ROGs kicks last week against Wales and it was over the 60 seconds as well. I'm sure if I checked all the kicks from all the outhalfs over the 6 Nations then there would be lots of instances of kickers going over the allotted time. It just seems like more than a coincidence that Sexton is pulled up on something all kickers do considering that many people are simply desperate to criticise him for anything he does these days.

Like I said the ref is not going to blow his whistle unless the kicker has gone well beyond the 60 seconds.

The ref was a stickler in fairness.

I'm a huge fan but I've noticed him take ages to kick a few times in the rds

    .edit.

Found it. This is funny but will surely get me an infraction.

I refer you to post 89 from a certain ruggiebear.......

Christ-all-fecking-mighty. I give up. Reckon we may as well give up with the whole 'rugby' forum thing and just call it the 'endless obsessive compulsive carping about the Irish fly-half' forum. Sure, it doesn't trip off the tongue as easily but at least it does have the virtue of being accurate. God some genuine rugby discussion would be so nice instead of this endless navel gazing crapola.
