I taught it was hughly enjoyable myself, great action scenes and Channing Tatum did a good job and Jamie Bell also plus Mark strong is brillant in a small role. My own probelm with it was it should have went for a all out action film instead of a Arty drama and the first half drags it back a bit but the last hour of the film is very good indeed.

Sounds like it will be similar in scope to Centurion. Low budget historical action film. Mike Sheridan on Entertainment.ie gave it 2.5 out of 5 which isnt encouraging.

B- from myself. I was an enjoyable matinee, impressive scenery, good action sequences and the forgien language portion was Irish. The direction had his own take on The pacing however was a bit uneven, and perhaps the certificate should have be 15.

I wanted to watch this when it came out and was quite disappointed to hear it was getting mediocre reviews. It seems you guys have enjoyed it though so maybe I'll give it a try.

I watched Centurion a few months ago which I quite liked and that wasn't exactly getting shining reviews so I'm hoping this'll work out the same.

I loved Centurion, it had beautiful cinematography, buckets of blood and some truly great moments though I did find the tacked on romance sub plot irritating, it took far too much time away from the limb hacking.

I was really looking forward to The Eagle and was looking at it as a sequel to Centurion but alas from the first trailer onward any hopes of a good film were dashed. I watched the first half of the film awhile back and was far from impressed, it was a saniticised and rather uninvolving wannabe epic with one of the least involving and unoriginal stories in a long time.

Saw this last night...the cinematography and locations are stunning, looks amazing....sadly it's let down by very weak acting, especially from Tatum and the supprting cast dial it in, the production values while not mega are pretty decent for what it is. Story was rather thin, it's quite slow paced and not a huge amount of action.

The location scenery alone and some of the places they film imo make it worth a look.

It's nothing remotely close to centurion in style or quality, it does have a few decent moments but it's far too drab, uninspired, and unoriginal- with too little action scenes to call it an action film, and too poor acting and storyline to class it as a passable drama, either. I think a rating of 2/5 is pretty accurate; watchable, but by no means impressionable, commendable or memorable.

Decided to give this another go after picking up the Blu-Ray for next to nothing. I don't know if it's because I was in the right mood for it or what but I have to say that I really did enjoy it. While the 12s rating does hurt the film and the story doesn't cover any new ground it is quite entertaining with two very good central performances and some stunning cinematography. Not a classic by any stretch but it easily kills 100 minutes and has some rather inspired moments.
