    Scenario

    5 players, nlh

    blinds 1250 - 2500

utg goes all-in for 4500 (short stack)

    Question

can utg+1 call the 4500 or must it be made 5000 ?

Expanding on the question, what would be the min raise allowed for utg+1?

would it be 5000 (2xbb) or twice the raise made by utg

thanks for any help on this

Player must call 5k, which is the BB

Min raise in most places is 10k

Cheers for the insight... care to expand?

The BB in the hand in question is 2,500, not 5k. Hence the problem.

I'm not sure about this myself, and would love to know exactly what happens. I'm pretty sure the following players only call the 4,500 because it was not raised to 5k (wouldn't putting in the extra 500 be a re-raise?)

I really don't know the answer to the second question...put on the spot I would say twice UTG's raise, so 4k min raise.

I've checked everywhere and can't find a simple answer to this. Can someone please tell me in plain English.

thanks for the feedback, but looks like we don't have an answer yet.

The way we played it was,

utg+1 had to make it 5k.

Reasoning was that, as the all-in was for more than 50% than the previous bet and so it was classified as a raise. The minimum legimitate rasie was 5k and so was played as normal from there.
The more than 50% previous bet rule, was used as it'd be pretty unfair if the all-in was for say 2800 and next person had to put in 5k.

Not everyone was happy about this, but he who shouts the longest and loudest usually wins these discussions

Still though i'd like if someone could give an answer to this.

Yes UTG +1 can call the 4.5k , he does not have to make it 5k and infact UTG+1 cant make it 5k.
If UTG+1 decided he wanted to raise he must make it double the last bet so in your example he must make it 9k minimun, afaik the double the last bet rule is only in the live poker scene in Ireland, in other countries and online UTG+1 could make it 7.5k in your example.
