While both Dalglish and Henry remain tight lipped about any contract negotiations, it seems many supporters have already made their mind up and would like to see Dalglish installed on a permanent basis. It'd be interesting to gauge this forums views on whether Dalglish and his coaching appointment, Steve Clarke, should take the club forward for the next number of years.

It'd be useful for those who don't believe he is the right man to suggest a viable alternative. I don't intend this poll to be love in for "King Kenny". Many Liverpool fans still have concerns he's got the ability to rebuild the club.

Should Liverpool give Kenny Dalglish a full time contract? 128 votes

Yes, Dalglish should be given the job

Yes he should be given the job. Since Dalglish took over, Liverpool have accumulated more points then any other EPL side, granted they have played two more games in that period then Chelsea, but there's been some tough games in that run, particularly Chelsea, Utd and Everton.

Obviously there's been a few blips along the way, Braga and West Ham immediately spring to mind but overall the team's results and performances in this period have been excellent relative to the strength of the squad

I have my concerns in some regards but its difficult to come up with a viable alternative. The appointment of Steve Clarke is a real coup.

Yeah i would give him the job. I think he has gotten something out of the players that didnt try a bone under Hodgson and the players know that he has an obsessive level of support from the fans so if they are not performing or are unhappy in someway, it will always be Dalglish that wins out. You cant buy a manager who has supreme power over the players like that.

His resumee includes 4 league titles and an FA Cup triumph. The team he is managing right now is playing well. The fans love him. The media love him.

I don't think there is a better candidate for the job.

I am actually shocked that the question is even asked on here.

Surprised it's even questioned. Which current player is Scully?

I actually didn't think this would be too one sided. If he was overlooked for the job. FSG deciding to go with someone else, would we be dealing with massive fan fury?

I think it would depend on who the someone else is. As discussed in the superthread over the last couple of days, the list of managers that would be accepted would seem to be a short one.

I'm still not 100% convinced, but you'd have to give him a full season at least.

I think it would be extremely difficult for a manager like Villas Boas to be given the job. Likewise someone like Klopp or Rangnick. To my mind the only viable alternative is Didier Deschamps. Mourinho I doubt would relish such a massive challenge.

Is this really an "Are Dalglish and Liverpool done?" thread in disguise?

He's been very busy in the transfer market for what is essentially a caretaker manager for the moment.

I don't think they'd have given him that much money to spend if he wasn't going to be given the job full time.

If the owners want the fans onside, they'll have to give him the job. I'd be very surprised if he's not given a lucrative contract come the summer.

    Yes and he will be.

Yes, as he's earned it, and I can be big enough to admit that I thought he might be a disaster. I was actually glad when Roy got the job over him last Summer, jaysus, who knew how things would end up eh!? :pac:

Me too :o, yet when he got the sack the line was, "Roy never got a chance with the Liverpool fans".

    Yes he should imo.

He's doing a very good job. When he took over we were 4 points above the relegation zone. Now we are 13 points above the relegation zone (thrown in for comparison) and 4 points behind 5th.

We averaged 1.25 points per game under Hodgson. Under Kenny it's 2 per game.

Under Hodgson we had 1 away win in 20 games (quite a feat in itself). Under Kenny it's 3 so far in 10 games.

The performances more than anything have improved. He has the whole team playing higher up the pitch in comparisant to Hodgsons stone age tactics. We are also knocking the ball about quite nicely at times. We are far from the finished article though contrary to popular belief ;)

Having been over at a handfull of games this season I can tell you the buzz around the place is completely different since Kenny took over.

The man understands the club and fans better than anyone. He loves them and the feeling is reciprocated.

I could go on and on but the number one reason why I think he should get the job is because he has improved results and performances.

I think the owners are playing it right though waiting until seasons end or near the end to announce it.

I really hope he gets it. I'm obviously biased cuz I love the man, a true Liverpool great :)

I would like to see him on a permanent contract, it just needs a couple of new players to boost the squad ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Yeah it would be crazy to appoint anyone else. In the 2months he has been incharge there have been noticable improvements in players like Johnson and Meireles...but most importantly there is a sense of belief back in the club with him in charge.

Plus his press conferences are always good for a chuckle.

    NO WAY!
By beating my beautiful chelsea boys, he has gifted the title to Manchester and is therefore a big fat traitor.
    Bring back Benitez!

    Without doubt!

Yes he embodies everything that is Liverpool. He's not full of shíte, doesn't make excuses and has delivered results so far. It would be madness not to bring him in on a full time basis.

Some Liverpool fans never cease to amaze me with the perverse way they can mess with statistics to suit the Liverpool is great argument :) Top of the league if you only count games that we're played on alternating Sundays.

Nonetheless, he's done well since taking over. Ultimately, he's been a top class manager in the past and could be a top class manager again. Nobody better out there and a scouser to boot. Don't see why you wouldn't give him a spin. Set a target of getting 4th place next year, see if he meets it.

one bad point in his reign as Pool boss this time around was the awful tactics he played against Braga

Ah come on now - that's a perfectly valid statistic when judging his time as manager.

Although I must say - I do remember you saying that he would be a great choice when many Liverpool fans (myself included) were against it. So hats off to you in that respect.

Yep - tactics in Europe were rotten. Thats pretty much the only negative thing I can say about him though.

Cant see why he shouldnt get a full time contract.
Players are playing for him, fans are 100% behind him, great personality, handles the media well, has exellent playing knowledge and tactics. And from what I've seen so far he's doing a good job in management.
It cant be easy picking up a demoralised team halfway thru the season and turning things completely around like he has. Hopefully over the summer they can dig into that squad and bring in new players. Hope to be challenging top 4 next year.

I think its fair to say that he's got the job. Its just a matter of time before its concluded.

I don't think anyone could have envisaged such a turnaround. I know I felt he'd steady the ship till the summer before FSG appointed a continental coach.

It was even pointless putting that poll up.The answer is so obvious ,not even worth debating ,because debating requires pros and cons.
The mans a God to Liverpool ,he lives and breathes the club.Players like Rodriguez and Kuyt have excelled under him ,they never showed promise like this before .The fans are behind him all the way ,hes one of the greatest players to ever play for Liverpool. The way they sang Happy birthday to him and he was genuinely so happy with this .Where would they be now if Hodgenson was still hanging about -I dread to think.
Liverpool for the league next season !!

Liverpool will not win the league next year - even if we landed Mourinho it would not happen for the squad is simply too many pieces away for it to happen in such a short timeframe.

However, if Dalglish and Clarke are retained and smart decisions made during the next Transfer window there is ever possibility that the team can trade through the premiership season in or around 2 points per game and subsequently qualify for the Champions League.

At this point, the list of names I would be happy with in lieu of Kenny getting the job is about two names long.
