Dressmaking - finding specific patterns

    Hi all,

I have some pretty rudimentary dressmaking skills, but I'm looking for a specific type of pattern. Basically I want to make 50's style dresses - fitted to the waist and then very flared out, to about knee length. The only pattern sites I know of have no search function. Does anyone know of a way to find specific patterns like that? Thanks!

Try looking for 'vintage patterns'. I don't know anything about the site above but it seems to have a good few patterns of the kind you want.

Vogue patterns do vintage ones. Some lovely ones on there and they include pictures of what they look like made up. I've ordered from them before and found them great. Another search tip would be to look for swing dresses.

    For example, this:

OMG, they're on sale too, feck ya Faith, *checks credit card* :p

once you get the hang of these, it's easy to change a modern patern to fit the rockabilly style. make sure you order a pattern for a midi full skirt, most modern styles wont have this,

A friend of mine got some lovely vintage butterick patterns, I remember one was the 4790 vintage wrap dress, which has turned out lovely with the right fabric. You could just look on etsy for vintage patterns, you'll find lots. Must get my sewing machine out!! While we are on the subject does anyone know if theres a Burda sewing group or something similar in Cork?

Some of those patterns look very familiar, I know I have the housecoat pattern 2010 in the attic!
