I have received an interview from dkit last week but my first choice and the one I really want is from nuig and still have heard nothing. I'm starting to get nervous. Should I have heard something by now?

Don't worry, I've heard nothing from Trinity, DCU or DIT re interviews yet.

The only college I have heard back from is NCI, and did MSAP for UCD so wont hear from them until offers I presume.

I wouldn't panic yet. If I don't hear anything in the next 2 - 3 weeks I'll be getting seriously worried though.

This is so horrible waiting on interviews / offers, but don't worry, there are plenty in the same boat.

I am thrilled. Do I treat this interview like a job interview , ie wear suit and bring my CV??

Hoping to hear good news from DCU soon. Presumably they will send either a rejection or an invite to an interview and not just leave you hanging by not sending anything?

Just wondering if any has heard about interviews for Arts in NUI Maynooth yet? I have a date for English essay after which I may receive interview for denominated degree in English, but nothing yet on general Arts interviews.
    Thanks

Hey Lil'Smiler what course did you apply for in DCU? Give them a ring!

I applied for BSc in Physical Education and Biology teaching in DCU. I'll hang on a little bit longer before giving them a call. I'm just glad to know that my application was received and was being reviewed for consideration 3 weeks ago :)

Still waiting to hear from DCU as to whether or not I have an interview. The waiting is driving me crazy! Has anyone else heard from DCU?

I applied for BSc in Physical Education and Biology

Yeah I'm definitely going to do that, getting worried. I did read that some people were just offered places and not even sent anything until later on in the year but I need to know!!! Perhaps there's not many mature students applying for my course and that's why. What course are you going for?

It can depend on the department. When I was applying, I heard back from Pharmacy before I heard from Physiotherapy at TCD. (that could also be because I got rejected from Pharmacy though. :pac: )

That's very true, I did think of that also. I emailed them last month as I never received my self addressed postcard i included for them to confirm receipt of my application so they emailed back on 10th March to let me know that my application was going forward to the Head of Department on the 11th for assessment. I'm a terribly impatient person so i'm just driving myself crazy, i just realised it was only a month ago. I kind of wondered too if they had a system of rejections first and then interviews? I don't know!

I spoke to the Dept Head for my No.1 choice a while back, I was worried I wouldn't get an interview. She said she's not even reading the applications till after Easter (150 apps for 2 places!!). But I've already been called for an interview for a different course in the same college. So I wouldn't worry about it yet. They all interview at diff times.

Just got an email back from DCU. I didn't get short listed for an interview or offered a place. I'm absolutely gutted, I knew it's possible it could happen but I thought for once something might go my way. I don't know what to do now :( I only applied for one course, should have maybe applied for more :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭hdowney

don't be disheartened. firstly if you want to apply for more places on different courses there is the late cao deadline of may1st. now that may not mean you get anything, but can't hurt to apply.

second, you are deffo not the only one who didn't get offered, other people on boards had similar expierences, applied a year later and got in.

this coming year could be used to build up on the type of criteria that were required for the course you chose, to make yourself the best possible candidate next year.

i know it is a hard blow at the moment, but keep your chin up :)

    *hug*

I know how awful it is Lil' Smiler. Been there myself, I didn't get in the first year of trying. But do not give up!!!

Look back at your application and see what was weak and how for next year, you can make it stronger. If you can, try contacting the department and ask why you were unsuccessful. They may or may not get back to you.

Also, you say you only applied for the one course? Is it a very specialised area or could you do another course that is similar and end up in the same industry when finished.

When I didn't get in, I was gutted. But I contacted the three colleges for feedback and worked on that. I did an access course and worked part time as a care assistant. And I'm so glad I had that extra year. I got offered my top 3 choices the following year but I was glad I completed the access course as it really helped me get back into the swing of study. Also, working as a care assistant helped me deal with patients.

I'm now nearly finished 2nd year and on my first hospital placement. If you want it you can get it! :)

Thanks Larianne, really not feeling great right now :(

I'm just so surprised to not even have gotten an interview. I applied for BSc in Physical Education and Biology in DCU. I don't want to just be a PE teacher, I love Science too which is why I applied for this course only.

My background is in gymnastics, I am a qualified coach and gymnastics is a large part of the PE curriculum. I went to college and did Holistic and Complimentary Therapies - my main two subjects that would apply to the application (i would have thought) were Sports Massage & Rehabilitation and Anatomy & Physiology. I have 7 diplomas from my course. This is as well as years of sports teaching experience in summer camps, schools for experience and of course my regular part time gymnastics job. I had the most fantastic reference letters from a college tutor and owner of my gymnastics club, i was even looking at them thinking "who is this girl!?!". I've also been constantly learning by doing gymnastics exams (which aren't easy) and building on experience etc. A friend of mine has said that possibly the lack of a level 7/8 degree put them off.

I don't know what to do now. It took me long enough to figure out what I wanted to do (I'm 24), I didn't really know in school I knew it was something relating to sport/teaching/science and then I found this course which just sounds so perfect for me. I'm absolutely gutted. If anyone has any advice, if there's any change of mind form that you know about I'd be most grateful. :) I just feel stuck in a rut completely.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds surprising that you didn't get an interview alright.

Maybe you could respond to your email and thank them for the notification and ask them for feedback on your entry and could they give you any information on how you could strengthen your application if you were to apply in the future.

Don't give up though, just because you didn't succeed on this occasion doesn't mean you wont be able to do it next time.

Also, you might be interested in looking in to access courses in the colleges too, if you don't gain entry through the normal route.

Perhaps look over some courses in UCD that might interest you in the sciences or arts and contact the admissions office about enrolling on an access course perhaps? If you are eager to get back to study and get out of a rut, this might be a good option for you.

Best of luck with study and future applications. You sound like a good candidate with good skills, and maybe you were very unlucky to get overlooked on this occassion, but will get in next time.

Why am I being ignored on this forum.

you are not being ignored, just perhaps nobody knows the answer to your question

EDIT: also i see that your question as to being ignored is only your second post on the forum, so how can you assume you are being ignored?

You are not being ignored. Posters on this forum are very good at helping out other posters if/when they can.

I did try look on the UCC website to see if you have to go for an interview but couldn't find anything. All I could find is the details for the MSAP test. You're best bet is to email or ring the department and see if you might be called for interview (not all courses require it).

Thanks a mill Jackass, your reply was really nice to read :) I'm just gutted to not even be shortlisted for an interview. I was waiting to ask for feedback once i'd calmed down after the initial feelings passed! I'm going to get onto it this week and ask the Chair of the dept for some feedback, mainly where can i improve, what let me down and is there any point in applying next year. It's all i want to do and unfortunately, i'm the type of person that should think you're never too old to start something but i feel that time is ticking.

Definitely have a look at the access to Science & Engineering course offered at UCD. Its a part time evening course covering all the science subjects and maths at Leaving cert level.

You have all the experience, probably too much even. So my guess is they are worried about the academic side of things.

Thanks, I'll definitely have a look into that. Yeah I'm guessing it might be the academic side and not having a degree yet. I'm going to get in touch with the chair anyway and ask her for some feedback. Just need to figure out what to do now but will definitely consider an access course.
