Ok, Im on a 1 year contract. Still in my probationary period (4.5 months of 6). I've received a job offer and will be resigning my current post. My contract stipulates 1 month notice. Other than negotiating it down with my current employer, do I have any other options/grounds to give them less notice? (my new employer…

Not really. The fact you're on probation doesn't really help you, unless your contract specifically defines a shorter notice period during this stage.

The chances are that they'll just want you to wrap up whatever you're doing as soon as possible, and will probably be happy to mutually waive a good bit of the notice period.
