I keep finding myself trying to justify my potential iPad 2 purchase in my head....I already have a Macbook Pro and an iPhone...help me convince myself...(and wife)!

I need everyday uses for this and reasons why it would be a much used toy piece of expertly crafted hardware in my home..

(reasons such as "it looks deadly" are not allowed...)

    Cheers!

    Same here.

    1. You don't have to power up your macbook to check something quickly (and you don't want to do it using your iphone...small screen)
    2. Both of ye can use the ipad/macbook to surf the web at the same time

That should be enough for ya!

I was in the exact same position to you, I have a Macbook pro and an iPhone 4, Living in a 2 bed Apt so technology is never out of reach and I wanted an iPad and to be honest I couldn't justify spending the money to myself let alone the other half especially as I live in a 2 bed Apt so its not like I had a Desktop machine in a house and it was upstairs or something.

I couldn't justify spending the money on it so I sold some of my old electronics on Adverts and when I got the money together I bought a second hand one on Adverts too, so ultimately it didn't cost me a penny to get one :D:D:D

Now that i have one my fears were justified I don't use it a huge amount in fact sometimes I have to force myself to use it!

When i do use it it is a fantastic piece of kit, it helps me read more such as magazines that I download now rather than buy in store, I also throw some of my college material on it so it looks like i study more :D

Also When I travel its great instead of bringing a bulky laptop and when I was abroad and staying with the parents in law who live in a house I used the iPad a hell of a lot more than i my macbook.

Its also handy for when your macbook battery dies and needs to be recharged I tend to swop from the macbook to the iPad and surf the net that way.

I wouldnt discount getting a 1st Gen ipad theres soem GREAT prices on Adverts right now, would it be nice to get the 2nd gen yes but in comparison to the 1st gen theres a camera for facetime (how often do you use facetime) and its slimmer and lighter woopty do, I'm a hardcore Apple fan and I'll update my IPhone the minute the new one comes out but will I update my IPad? no probably not I don't think its worth it.

If you had the chance take a lend of one from a mate for a week or two and try it out and you'll find the hype will either grow or die depending on how you use it

Ultimately OP its your decision, I suppose keep in the back of your mind that if you do get one you'll prob be able to sell it easy enough and get a real good price for it so I don't think there's to much to gamble if you do get one

Off topic, but why do you need to power up your Mac? Unless you aren't going to be using it for several days/a week, you should just sleep it. It wakes up almost instantly and uses very little battery. I never power down my MacBook.

True, I own an iMac and don't use the sleep function so I'm a little out of touch with Macbook users I guess!

When I had a laptop I used to hibernate rather than power down though.

I would love to get one myself, I can't think of a reason to justify getting one. I have no real use or need for one, the main thing I'd probably use it for would be books...I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you find a way to justify it! :pac:

It's amazing the power Apple's marketing and branding has on us tech consumers!

I know I don't need one, but that does nothing!

Totally agree - I've had a hard few weeks in work and I'm justifying this as my reward (aside from my wages obviously!)

It just depends on how you look at things!

You can do as per the report on Iclarified you might get a free Ipad and no need to justify it

Brilliant. I wonder if they'd do the same if I did one with 'bank says no'
