My uncle died recently and i was just wondering how i can do the following,

I want to just have a landline, i just want to recieve calls but not make them, the reason i need a landline is because i am getting an alarm installed in the house with monitoring

How easy will it be for me to get eircom to do this as i am only a nephew and acting on behalf of the family

For your information: eircom's phone number is 1901.

Line rental is around 24 EUR per month. With monitoring, if the alarm is activated, it will use the line to text or call the monitoring station. I don't know why you've posted here as this is VoIP forum, you'll get more information of eircom lines via their forum or the home security forum.

Those on Social Welfare and other plans may get discounts. Another option is NOT recommended for monitoring: you could get an GSM text digi to contact the monitoring station, set off the alarm every 5 months to keep the sim working. Note again, not recommended for monitoring as it can be easily barred.

Best advice is to go over to eircoms forum. When you say forum, I presume you mean 'Alarm control centre monitoring' e.g. Eircom PW, as you can also get the alarm to text you.

Using voip is not the best option, you must use a voice dialler for it to work properly.
