Had my first spin on a 29er around 2/3 months ago and I had a great bit of craic on it. I was thinking about getting one but seem to have difficulty sourcing them in Ireland and those that I can find are incredibly expensive.

Wouldn't be looking for anything fancy.

Are there many suppliers here and if there are, are any of them good value? Or is it a case of, if I go for a 29er, I will be paying through the nose.

Cheers Frederick, would be looking to get something a little bit cheaper, if you see anything else please post.

A single speed would be fine with me as well, like I said, nothing fancy.

EDIT: Something like this, but I'd need a bigger size: http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Bikes/Mountain+Bikes/Kona+Bikes/Kona+Unit+-+2011_K-UNIT.htm

I got my 29er in the Cycle Inn in Tallaght, amazing bike.

    http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/gary_fisher_collection/29er_full_suspension/rumblefish/

They had some 29er hardtails there aswell that were a lot cheaper and a singlespeed that was around €700 as far as I remember.

I have to say that I'd never go back to a 26" again, the difference is unreal:D:D:D

This is on e-bay, if you're a tall fella could be an interesting project for you. (not my auction btw)

Seen it already, trying to figure out the price if I build it up, already contacted him about it.

The only difficulty would be the wheelset, you'd probably pick up everything else reasonably by putting up a wanted ad here. Will you go singlespeed or geared?

Just bear in mind, that's a hybrid/commuter frame - not a mtb. Depends what you're after.

Seriously thinking of getting this, great value and looks like it can be converted to geared also, only slight downer are the mechanical disks and the ***tour forks, but a great base to build a nice trail bike.

Seen it as well but alas it is a collect in store only bike so it's off the cards.

Anyone here ride an on-one 29er? Looking to build a monster cross/ rough tourer but top tube looks very long for drop bars... Any thoughts? Was thinking the scandal29 looked good. Anything else about at good price? Would consider frame or full bike...

Now that disc brakes are allowed in cyclocross competition, Niner's frames are being used in cyclocross over in the States so that might be an option to build a cross/touring bike.
Building a Niner Air 9 at the moment, 2 x 10 gearing, but for regular MTB duties.
Unicycle in Limerick stock Niner, with a couple of Demo bikes available and they also have Kona - two 29'ers in stock at the moment, a geared one and a single speed one. Chris, who runs the shop is sound.

Sorry to drag this thread up but has anyone any opinions on these two very similar Cubes:

    ACID

    versus

    AnaLOG

Is the 200 euro difference justified, they seem good value otherwise?

Are they both 26" frames with 29" wheels? The clearance between the rear tire and the seat tube looks tiny in the pics.

    Is a 29er. a Hardtail MTB?
Going to buy a Surly Ogre soon and want to know how to size it ie. just go to a cycle shop a size a hardtail MTB. Is this the same frame sizing?

The 29 refers to wheel size! The older standard for MTBs is 26" but increasingly they are being made with 29" wheels. They are available in both hard tail and full suspension. Some of the top manufacturers have stopped making 26" wheeled XC bikes eg Specialized.
