hi all today my engine management light has lit up and on the display on the dash says emissions workshop, what could be the fault here and will it cost me to get it sorted thanks

You will really have to get someone to use a laptop to read the error message.

You will probably get a list of 5 common things this could mean but it's not worth replacing them all if only one is broken.

Diagnostic would be the best bet to identify what is wrong.

Most likely it is the coolant temperature sensor. I wrote a DIY on how to replace it here:

Part can vary between 20 and 30 euro (depending on where it is sourced from) for the O ring and the clip + G12 coolant (a liter of concentrate is about 10euro in a VW dealer) and what ever a diagnostic scan costs + labour.
