Why do FG and FF act and look so different?

    Just curious about something.

I know people are full of praise for how Enda Kenny has aqquited himself in recent weeks both at home and abroad. It's refreshing to at least have an air of competency in the cabinet. Thought Eamon Gilmore looked the part with Clinton aswell but anyway.

Why is it with Fianna Fáil they always looked liked glorified (even drunk) County Councillors at the best of times? *thinks back to biffo who looked drunk with suits always hanging off him* With FG and Labour they seem more assured and competent (even though they may not be!) and generally look presentable. I was always embarrased by both Bertie and Biffo esspecially when they were interviewed abroad. But it was not only them but members of their party always had that gombeen look about them.

This illustrates my point I think

Whereas the Labour and Fine Gael crowd seem more presentable.

I think there is a big difference between FF and all the other parties. Id even say Luke Ming Flanagan inspires more confidence then most FFers.

I wonder why this is? And is that the impression everyone has?

And how did they get away with it for so long!?

You say it like it's a bad thing but it took years of careful inbreeding to reach those impressive results you see today.

In fairness, stupid people are entitled to have representation in the Dail.
That is FF's function and they do it well.

You're saying a FF TD in a suit is not presentable and then you hold up Luke Flanagan as an example you prefer?
Him with the soccer chants, sweat stains and casual shirts.

What do you think is presentable?

I think he's just making the point that even Luke Flanagan has each eye the correct socket.

That youtube video in the original post is the most surreal piece David Davin Power has done. It looks like all the people are photo-shopped in...but they move!:pac:

The difference is that Fine Gael actually have an ideology, ie they have a set of ideas that they have been true to since their foundation.

Like Labour, Sinn Féin, the Greens, the Socialist Party etc this helps attract individuals who share the same ethos. Therefore the party attracts people like Alan Shatter, Brian Hayes, Leo Varadkar, ie people with no family connection to Fine Gael.

Fianna Fáil, on the other hand, have depended on the sons and grandsons of the party faithful to stand for office and to vote for them. For this reason FF have always had a far larger core vote than Fine Gael.

In the early days the differences between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil were very pronounced. However, over the years FF sold out on their founding principals and basically turned into a party with no clear ideology. Some claim to be Fine Gael style Christian Democrats, others claim to be Labour style Social Democrats and still others profess to be Sinn Féin style Irish Republicans. When offered with the choice the people have decided to vote for the real thing rather than FF.

In other words FF exist only to gain votes and therefore power. This attracts gombeens.

We go into battle this week again. Do Sarkozy and Merkel come out with a bloody nose? Or does Enda Kenny get battered? Corpo tax up for grabs. Been showing a bit of steel - will he keep it up? Alot of pressure going to be put on Ireland at the summit. He could threathen them with the "d" word. More likely he may choose to threathen their banks with burning. They have cards aswell - no money!

I totally agree with your assessment, hands down that is the problem with FF.

They are basically a golden circle of corrupt families who bought and sold Ireland for petty profit.
