Myles Dungan is presenting an item (March 20, 2011) on Dun Laoghaire's Mariners Church, on Haigh Terrace, off of George's Street Upper.

If any boardsies were in the cubs, scouts, or just a school outing, it is quite likely you were brought to it as a kid, as it now houses the National Maritime Museum.

This radio item predates the Museum.

In search of the scattered parishioners of Dunlaoghaire’s Mariner’s Church

Canon George Chamberlain was rector of the Mariner's Church, Dunlaoghaire from 1925 until the mid 60s and he and his family lived next door.

The Mariner’s Church closed in the 1970s, its flock scattered and it’s now home to the Mariner’s Museum.

Canon Chamberlain’s grand-daughter, Julie Parsons has been on a mission to find out what became of the parishioners of the Mariners – and she talked about her quest on the programme.

A full list of the Mariners families is available on Julie Parson's website –

The show will quite likely be available on the RTE site as a digital broadcast after the transmission date.

That sounds interesting! I wonder how long it will be till its refurbished?? I passed it not long ago and it looked quite desolate:( so some media coverage would be beneficial.
