Friend at work got a 07 mint one for 10k, I would give max 12k for a 08 in very good nick.I wouldn't trade, try sell privately your 1.4 astra and bargain hard on the OPC.

    Anyway on the car:D

Its really fast, when it hit boost at 3k rpm its ballistic ( remapped one 280bhp or so ) its has almost too much power imo, you have to be careful first few times you hammer the accelerater, its very sensitive imo and thats coming from the even quicker Mazda 3 Mps.

I heard same year 1.7 diesel Astra's are going for more in the dealers than the OPC, so go get yourself a bargain.

Not too many 08 OPCs about as the new tax system killed them. Should be able to pick up a bargin as these hot hatches are out of fashion. Just watch the torque steer, the OPC has plenty of it. :D

Make sure you test drive one a good bit. I found it way too prone to torque steer. Not enjoyable to drive compared to the competition.

Hi, got my Arden blue Astra OPC from new. Got it b4 June 08, so it's on the old tax systems.(€640 a yr). Done about 86000kms in her now. Mainly trouble free( had a new gearbox after a yr used ).A common problem with the OPC.Also if you're kinda heavy wearing on front tyres( on my 6th set of Eagles F1 Asymetric). I wouldn't bother re-mapped cos there's plenty of power there. Skinned many a "RS4"Audi A4. Didn't want to overtake them , but was choking with all the black soot coming from just one the twin pipes.

Rob, seriously. You own an OPC. You need to be setting the bar a little higher than "RS4 TDi"s when you're looking for someone to skin... :P:D

240 hp >> 130 hp - an OPC Astra should beat any RS4 TDI without even the slightest bit of difficulty!

i bought mine new. have it 4 years and the only trouble i had with it it when i tried to make a boat out of it in the floods and the engine went bang. insurance covered it though so all good.

the opc astra got a bad review on top gear and it turned a lot of people off it. what a lot of people dont know is that tha car reviewed on toip gear was a prototype and not the finished version. a lot of people give out about the torque steer in the opc. torque steer is a problem for unexperienced drivers or people with the arm strength of a 2 year old.

i have driven a lot of different cars in my time and have driven golf gti's, focus st's, typeR civics and i can safely say that the kick from the turbo in the astra as you are bearing down on any of the above will bring a smile to your face everytime. a mate of mine actually sold his gti and bought an opc after driving mine and said it was the best move he ever made.

there are very good deals to be made on opc's as someone said earlier but remember that cheaper isn't always best. someone might be looking for a few hundred quid more for their car but that's because they have looked after it and not driven the ring out of it and neglected it like alot of irish drivers seem to do.

after all that though take one for a test drive. put the shoe down in any gear and i will put €100 that you will have a silly grin on your face straight away :) buy it and enjoy it :)

Personally if I was buyign new I'd be in the Megane , goign on specs alone the Megane is slightly better across the board on torque, top speed, 0-60 and MPG. It's also €630 to tax compared to €1050 in the Astra. Tends to fair very well in any tests I've read too.
Plus I really hat ethe Opel interior stylign of square everythign in the last 8 years or so. The Megane's only out since last year though so not really a 2nd hand option yet for someone lookign for ones a few years old.

    Nice car
    Quick car
But, I bet they would look for the €100 euro back fairly prompt when they notive the fuel gauge dropping :)

Since when has a Megane been able to pull the foil off a tub of butter?

The same time a bog standard Astra could probably, but as has been pointed out above, the thread is about the astra OPC :)

    i test drove a few opc's before i settled on a 2006 focus ST

i found the interior too basic in the opc, and the fully kitted ST was much nicer inside with better recaro leather seats

didnt like the sound off the opc either, nicer purr from the ford when the turbo starts going

in saying all that id be slightly temped with one as the tax on the ford is sickening

Got the chance to take an OPC for a proper rip yesterday.

    1 word : underwhelmed!

I expected the car to be a rocket considering it has 240bhp but to be honest it doesnt feel that much faster than my re-mapped Mk4 GTI?

Also recently had a spin of a Mk5 GTI DSG (200bhp stock) ... and the OPC certainly doesnt feel like it has an extra 40Bbhp to its name!

When it comes down to driving it, forget trying to get the power down in 1st and 2nd gear without the traction control system interfering. If you switch it off you just get wheelspin when the boost comes in.

(to be fair though, same could be said for any FWD car with more than 200bhp, especially when its wet)

Accelerating, in / out of a corner is a no-go aswell.

The car feels best after 3rd gear in a straight line.

With that said, overtaking on the motorway isn't as savagely brutal as youd expect from its bhp & torque figures.

Dont get me wrong, overall the OPC is a really nice car but it definitely sounds better on paper than it does in real life.

... Maybe i just had my expectations set too high.
