So, Iv followed the users manual on how to connect to the internet, but still cant manage to get a connection.
Im trying to do it for my little brother who's had his ps3 since Christmas and is frustrated that he's the only one out of his friends who can't play online.

    What Iv done:

    Went to Internet connection seettings
    Selected 'Easy'
    Selected 'Wireless'

..then we're confused. Adjust wireless LAN settings? We chose the connection we use for the laptop, netbook and pc. Nothing.. it says its timed out and cant find an IP address. Help please, thanks.

More info is needed please. Who's your ISP? Do you have any issues connecting anything else to the internet?

Can't check for you until half time C'mon Chelsea!
But if you don't have how you want to connect to the internet selected to wireless then you can't.
So go to network settings and select wireless then see how you get on. I'll do a more thorough check in about 8 mins if somebody else hasn't sorted you out before then.

    ISP is Eircom

I went to Network settings > Easy > Wireless Settings

WLAN settings: Scan.. enter manually or automatic(what do I do?)

Easy > Wireless > Scan > Select your access point > SSID(whatever) > Select whatever security setting you have > WPA Key(whatever password is) > Done.
Press X to save settings and test.*

*Make sure you have internet connection enabled.

    So settings> internet connection settings>easy>wireless>scan.
Should give you a list of available connections at this point select your own the next screen should have some more options ( i don't use eircom ) mine says

    WLAN settings

    NONE
    WEP
    WPA-PSK/******

The last one is the one you want to select (in my case anyway)
It will then ask for your WEP key which is your password to connect wirelessly to your router this is found in my case on the bottom of my router(UPC)

    Hope this helps

The password is whatever (if any) password you set up on your router.
It is the same one you use to connect your other pcs and laptop to the internet.

That username and password on the bottom of the router is what you use to log onto your router.

You should then have a WEP/WPA password in the security settings on your router.
This is the one you use to connect the PS3 to the router.

If you're with eircom, you probably have one of those netopia routers.
Go on your laptop, open your browser and type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar. This should bring you to your router. You'll find the WEP key under security or something.

The Mammy is tellin us the reason we cant connect to the internet is that "the router is restricted to three internets," what she means by that is - with the pc, the laptop and the netbook all connected wirelessly, there isnt an allocation for the ps3.. is this correct?

Iv just done that, its showing me lots of things, none of them a password. Under Privacy it says 'Wep - Manual' is that any use?

Nope, did somebody set the router up for you?
They might have enabled static IP addresses and disabled DHCP

So when you go into the Playstation and do a scan, can you actually see your network listed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

Yes. The problem at this point is; I dont know the password to put in once I choose my network. Theres lots and lots of numbers on the bottom of my router, I dont know which is the one Im after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭wobzilla1

The number you're looking for isn't written on the actual router. It's gotten from logging into the router. I haven't had that model of router in years so I can't remember where exactly you find it. You may have to click on "Expert mode" or something before you can find the WEP key.
It's 26 figures long and made up of number 0-9 and letters a-f

    One final question.

Upon mentioning to the Mammy that we finally got it working, she snapped. "I know what I paid for! and I was told there's 3 computers to that line!," ..will us finally getting the ps3 connected affect her Eircom bill in any dramatic way?
