Recommend a good paper Shredder

    Hi all

I need a new paper shredder for securely getting rid of bank statements,
utility bills etc. as we should all do in this day and age.

I've had a few of them, and the one that just stopped working was
a Fellowes Bulldog P-45C I got in Argos a few years ago.

This one was supposed to be able to shred 6 sheets at a time and
easily handle CDs and credit cards. I found this to be totally untrue.
The unit could only shred 4 or 5 pages, added one at a time, without
blocking or literally grinding to a halt. Then I had to run it in reverse
for a few minutes to clear the accumilated paper. Very dissapointing.

    This one wasn't cheap either, about €50 I recall. I don't mind
spending this much, as I consider secure destruction of personal
records very important and much cheaper than going through
the horror of identity theft or credit card fraud.

Common ID theft usually involves bogus online purchase or credit and loan applications
but you can see here for an extreme example of how a shredder can protect you :

So I need a new one. Can anyone recommend a good cross-cut shredder
the ribbon-cut ones are not secure enough for even everyday use.

    Thanks

This thread is from 2011 but the question remains the same!
Cross cut seems to be the way to go?

    Hi all

    Scissors.

Cut off the top parts containing your name and address and account number, slice them in two to separate the name and account number, put both of those sections into the black bin. Put the main part of each page (the transaction details) in the green bin.

Why would you be worried about someone getting hold of your old utility bills? I used to be with ESB and Eircom, now I'm with other suppliers.
