Looking for a new frame - titanium or carbon??

Hi all, I am in the process of searching for a new frame. Have been doin some searching on ebay (where else lol!), and there are loads of carbon frames from china, but have also found new titanium frames (unbranded) for 600 euro incl postage. I have already had a carbon frame from ebay - it was too small, ended up selling it as couldnt get comfortable on it. At the time I didnt pay any customs and excise duties on it - was i one of the lucky ones? While I'm open to looking at good quality second hand frames, am tempted to take the chance and order from china again - have read what duites i can be charged, what does that mean in money terms to me - what have other people been charged?

What are titanium frames like to cycle? Would prefer a metal frame (call me old fashioned lol) so not ruling out aluminium or anything else. Open to all suggestions to be honest.

I was cycling a look kg455 which had main tubes carbon and the rest was alloy - grand bike, have had it 7 years, but made a sizing mistake when i bought it, it measures 58cm from centre bottom bracket to top of seatpost. I want to do the ring of kerry cycle this year so want to get something decent without breaking the bank! Anything around the 54cm mark would be more suitable (I'm 5ft 8). Probably goin off on a few different tangents here but need help!!!!! Any and all info/tips most welcome. Thanks for your time! Oh and by the way, the Look frame is for sale! Yeah i know - put it in the adverts section - but god loves a trier lol!!

Titanium is heavier and more expensive than carbon. It can ride very nice, if it fits, but then so can carbon.

    What Blorg said.....

I have a planet - x ti frame (racing geometry made by Lynskey). Love it, very smooth and have found it stiff as well (86kg and never felt it flex). If I was buying again I would get a carbon frame for racing, but will always keep the ti for training/sportives. Would advise against buying a cheap ti frame.....not moulded like carbon so the manufacturing process is very involved and can mean the difference between a good and bad bike

I have a Setavento (busto in 2007?) custom Ti Ultegra triple. Weight is 8.55 kg. It is light, rides well, and is stable downhill. I'll never enter a race so that is not a concern. One sportive a year is enough. Its a bike for life so get a good one, custom fit.

Planet-x who posts on here races a titanium Enigma Eclipse (?).

I'm looking to get a steel framed road bike to replace my aluminum bone-shaker - both my other bikes, commuter and mtb, are steel (On-one), and I've also owned a Thorn Raven (also steel) - nicest rides on two wheels.
