Junior Cert Subject Concentration

Hey, I'm new to this whole site so I'm not sure if personal threads like this are tolerated but I will give it a shot:

I already have poor concentration at studying but I'm starting to pick myself up a bit now. I'm very intelligent, just lacking the study.

For Leaving Cert, I hope to do 2 Science subjects and History so I was wondering if it is overall best if I put most of my concentration into getting the A in Science and History and French, and then don't do as much study in Business, Geography etc... In those subjects, without studying, I can get B like I did in the Mocks so I was wondering what is best for me...

Obviously, I know that Maths is what I will be putting most of my time into. Irish is pretty much a sinking ship for me but I did get 50% in Honours for the Mock so that is good I guess. English is just difficult, don't know how to just break into the Bs...

    Help appreciated :)

Hey, weird, you're doing the same subjects as me next year then, well, depending on which 2 sciences you choose. Um yeah, if you get distracted easily and you don't really care about getting maximum A's then it'd be advisable to focus on those areas. If you can get B's in Business and Geography without trying in the mocks, it could go up even with just classwork. I did too, and I don't really intend on doing even a bit of study for Business at any rate. Ummm if you're not too crazy about Irish don't worry about it tbh, unless you want a course in college that requires a HC3, but for English I think there's a thread lying around here with advice, basically just read a lot and learn from it and ALWAYS answer the question. No bluffing it or going on for ages about insignificant stuff, answer the question, give evidence, and summarise what you've just said. It's a foolproof formula, and it should get you at least a B even if your style isn't great. Oh, and just learn your stuied stuff.

I didn't mean for that to be a block of fairly unhelpful text, but I tried. But to summarise, focus on the important stuff for next year yeah, and if you reckon you can get a B or whatnot in your other subjects, that's very good and no need to worry. :)

    Yes, thanks for that :)

Yeah, for the Mocks I didn't study much for History and I got 80% and for the Junior Cert, the topics coming up are quite predictable.

I got 82% in Science after constantly studying but was caught out by what we haven't covered and an experiment I forgot to revise (Smoke Box hahaha). I know it now though! :p

    65 in English that I hope I push to a B and then Irish, hopefully a C.

Don't make the mistake of basing how you think you will do in the LC on JC grades. Different exams, completely different way of marking.

If you are going to put the effort into anything, put it into maths and possibly French, but mainly maths, because if its not bang on perfect for leaving you are not doing HL. I would obviously focus on the subjects more important to you, the science at leaving cert is a world away from JC for a lot of things anyway. I would focus more heavily on languages like French and Irish because they won't be going back over stuff in 5th year.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind about the Science :)

Maths is what I'm putting the most effort into anyways. Got 64% in the Mocks...
As for French, I understand why it's necessary to study that very hard but I'm actually fluent at French due to living in Belgium so I'm grateful that frees up time for other subjects.
Irish is just awkward for me and I struggle to expand on it like I do with other languages, I honestly believe it is the syllabus!
I'm doing my best to get a B in English..
