I struggle to make friends and am having difficulty moreso as I get older - now in mid 30's. I just can't seem to break into groups. I find where I live the groups of people are quite closed to new peopel - that is the perception given off to me.

I feel as if I've wasted too much time here trying to meet people. I do have depression and some social anxiety - I'm not sure if social anxiety is the result of lack of friends or whether the lack of friends is due to my social anxiety, if you see what I mean.

I have friends living in USA and they are meeting lots of people, doing lots of interesting things, good weather, etc. I am so jealous.

I find people here in Ireland not very open and everything revolves around pubs. I think I'd fit in better in USA or likewise and maybe the move would help me reach out and make friends. I am totally at a loss as to how I can get my social life going here. I think I need a change, but I'm not sure if my family would understand.

Currently, I stay with parents quite often - because I've nothing else to do.

I do lots of night classes - every term nearly, travel quite a bit, gym, - but I've never met anyone who was willing to bring me into their group of friends.

How do so many people from here manage to get working in USA? I know of many (not on speaking terms though) who have gone out and are working/married there. How do they do it?

I'd love to try it. Or maybe just go anywhere for a while to make friends. Small mindset Ireland is killing me. I seem to be paying the price for not being part of the GAA club when I was a kid!
