I thought these were a thing of the past. The C4 Picasso has a €700 premium for an Automatic gearbox... but the Ford S-Max has a €4k premium. WTF ?

I'm trying to work out what MPV or mini-MPV is the best to go for, and I'm ... consistently surprised at how crazy some of the price options are.

    €800 for a push-button, instead of a key ? Srsly ? €3000 for a freakin' satnav?

    John

It might be the other way in a few years as motor mfgs a planning on autos as standard in the interest of fuel economy, thats if we can still afford to buy fuel.

Autoboxes are by nature less efficient than the comparable manual

They hope to have efficiency sorted out by then by use of more computerised systems.

This isnt the 90's anymore. Autos in a lot of cases are more efficient on current cars.

The new generation of autos (DSG/Powershift etc) are often showing better fuel economy than their manual siblings.
