Game recommendations: non-violent non-18s

Perusing the catalogue of PS3 games it seems a lot of the games are violent actioner types and a fair few BBFC 18 titles. Nothing wrong with this of course and I liek these games but I'm on the lookout for something that doesn't involve blowing up zombies with a half bazooka/half machete weapon.

    Any recommendations?

It's somewhat difficult to come up with games that are non-violent, as that seems to come as standard for most big games these days. I would suggest LittleBigPlanet 2, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Valkyria Chronicles, Katamari Forever and Mirror's Edge (which can be played with very little confrontation and gun use). There are some great racers that have come out recently or will be out soon, like Gran Turismo 5, Split Second and Motorstorm Apocalypse (Motorstorm Pacific Rift is great too).

If you like JRPGs there are quite a few that you could play, as they are typically less violent than Western RPGs, so you could give FFXIII, Nier or Resonance of Fate a shot. Those games are all very much an acquired taste though I would think, but can be found quite cheap online.

You should try some games from the PSN Store if you haven't already. I'd recommend PixelJunk Shooter (1 and 2), Flower, Braid, Critter Crunch, Shatter, Super Stardust HD and WipEout HD.
    Assassins Creed series
    Red dead redemption
Both of those games can be incredibly violent so I'm not sure they would fit the bill. Amazing games though!

Them games involve guns and other weapons, fairly adult themed.

    Cheers to Goth Punk

I agree with what GothPunk mentioned too, but you said you liked those kind of games but wanted something that "doesn't involve blowing up zombies with a half bazooka/half machete weapon"

Id hardly call those most of those games adult themed, and just because a game has a gun or weapon in it doesn't make it adult themed,
Well yes i agree Assassins Creed and RDR have some violent parts in them its nothing too bad, they are still very good games,

Heavy Rain isn't blowing up a zombie, its a thriller with good characters and a good story,
Ratchet and clank is a fun that anyone could play
And Tomb Raider and saints row are fun games to play,

What type of games are you into OP?

Lots of sports and racing games out there, Fight night champion, F1, NFS HP, Modnation racers.

Platformers such as LBP 2 maybe.

But other than that im kind of stumped its either sports, kid friendly platformers or BAzooka fueled Zombie hunting :D

May it is true that video games are too violent :D

Can't add much to the above. Not sure about Heavy Rain - admirably short on actual played controlled combat and (barring a good few moments) relatively mature, but most certainly contains enough 'adult situations' to warrant an 18s rating. There is an awful lot of nudity and worse. Admittedly it's in a different type of way than your usual gory shooter, but most certainly not clean-cut and occasionally a wee bit exploitative!

As said, if you want innocent fun the likes of LittleBigPlanet or JRPGs would be your best bets. GothPunk covered most of the bases, but I'd also throw in Double Fine's sublime Costume Quest and Stacking. Both are adorably fun.

Valkyria Chronicles, don't mind the 16+ rating. There isn't a drop of blood in it.

    A great strategic RPG.

There's an Ico HD remake coming soon. Not sure when though. I'd imagine it's pretty soon. The news was announced last September.
