I done a check on a car I am interested in and I am wondering about the mileage. It has the same recorded mileage for the past number of years according to the check.. Is that not weird???? Or do they just not give exact mileage do prevent others clocking?

Has it been for sale for a while? It's unlikely anyone will shave a few k off every couple of months. If the mileage is recorded frequently during the period, I think it's safe to assume it's been off the road and for sale. The bigger question is why none of the prospective buyers who entered the mileage onto the system went ahead with the sale?

What's the source the motorcheck companies use for checking the mileage ?
    Is it the NCT ?

Has the car been in stock with a dealer for ages?

Many people may have done a check on it, but the mileage may not have changed because it wasn't being driven.

Hi I cant comment on cartel as I've neve used it.

This is just a generic comment about buying a car.. If there is even a sniff of doubt on any record/document/panel then I'd walk away. There will be another better car along.

If a car is cheaper that it's counterparts then there may be a reason.

The best if luck with your car-hunt, hope it all works out ok for you.

The check which is motorcheck same as cartell says all is above board I just cant understand if how they log the milleage. And am wondering if they dont give exact reading or in fact has this car has asme mileage for 4 years which would be weird and bad.. obviously

I will probably have to ring motor check to see is this the case. It has had 3 owners and according to my check I am the first to query the car through motorcheck. Would sound very dodge if its been sitting idol for all that time :(

I'm sure it's just an administrative error on the INMR's part, perhaps the car wasn't serviced at a participating garage since the first reading they are showing or something like that. If it was doing like 100km a year I'd be suspicious!

Hmmm yeah its like 2004 car and 39,000 on clock and 3 owners... I just had to check for genuine miles but as you can see I am more confused now as all the reading are the same. The car was sold 6 months after it was first bought and the next 2 owners had it 3 years. It has been taxed all the time so I presume its been on the road. It will be a great buy for me if the mileage is genuine I just need to be sure. The car is in a garage 4 hours from me so I want to be pretty sure before I go trekking down to view it.

Look for the service book, if/when it's stamped they should be including the mileage.

    Hi,

Service book has a record or 33,000 in 2009, its the only record but I would presume and hope that the previous owner did get his 3 free services from his warranty. So only 6,000 done on car since then....

Havent heard from Motorcheck and so I rang the service who informed me the car took over a year to sell. The second owner put it on the market it seems after 3 months and it was not taxed. When it was eventually bought last year that person has had it a year and had an NCT and The only service record is from the garage he bought it from then @33,000.
SOOOOOOO car has been on road past year, but as to why owner 2 wanted to sell the car so soon after buying and why it took sooo long to sell..... Makes me wonder. Cant really afford a full inspection of car, but I still want the car... Would the rest of ye just walk at this point?

    Cars....

Here is an example of lets say a toyota car.

    Bought 2007 1st owner.

Traded back into garage after 2 years against a new car. Garage can't sell it for some reason.

Big dealerships don't like having ageing cars hanging in their lots so they knock them on to smaller dealers. This actually requires a change of ownership. So your now on the second owner and mileage hasn't changed.

The second dealer tries to sell the car but in fairness no one has been buying cars in a while. I spent the last three months looking at cars and the number of times the mechanic has come out with a battery kit to start the engine simply because the car has been idle for 6 months or more.

They NCT the car. Mileage recorded again with little or no change.

Its possible for a car to move through a few dealers and spend a year or more in a lot.

Just because its possible doesn't mean its acceptable. I would personally walk away from any car I have a doubt over. unless he is offering a 12 month warranty.

Sorry just looking over the bit where you said tax was out for a period in 2007.

Just to be aware. If I hit your car and fecked up mine. Your car wasn't to bad and we therefore agreed to sort it out with out notifying anyone. I paid you off and started to fix my own car. That little secret will never be recorded. I could even trade the car to a wheeler dealer who would fix it on the sly.

That happens a lot too.... I would definitely walk away from this car. Other cars will always come. There is a never ending flow of cars on the go.

Thanks for that Xual. Yes I think I will forget about this one and move on. I would definitly be worried about if it had crashed previously too. So will leave it at that.
