My make up looks better without primer - what's the fuss?

Right I've tried a few primers. Gosh, Smashbox, Lancome and a few of the others. I've done everything properly as far as I'm aware (put on moisturiser first, let both dry but not too much before foundation etc) yet recently I just gave up using primer and I think my make up looks better without it? I don't have good skin at all so everything helps, what am I doing wrong? Most girls seem to swear by primer yet I see zero difference and usually my make up (Revlon colourstay) looks better without it. My foundation is long lasting so I don't need the long lasting element of it, just the smoother, better look is what I was hoping from primer but I don't get that.

Any tips or are some of you similar in that primer does nothing for you either?

Have to say Daisy, I'm not convinced either. It all sounds too much like painting the walls to me. Just a way for makeup companies to make more money as far as I'm concerned. Sure with all the promises they make on the bottles of foundation it's a wonder you'd need anything else with it.

I will probably horrify some people on here by saying I use this http://fakebake.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FBTU&Product_Code=FBRS-01&Category_Code=FakeBake on my face before my make up, it makes it glide on and gives my skin a nice glow!

I said this in another thread but primer is to be used where you might have open pores etc and it needs a little smoothing out.

I put primer on and around my nose, my chin (the little inny bit) and just above my eyebrows!

@Tayla, does that stuff really work? I wonder would a cheap alternative work?!

I find mine stays better on with the primer tbh, I never looked to wear any primer until I got sick of the makeup coming off a bit more easily

The only primer type of thing that I found good was a product by Time delay product in boots that they discontinued:( I think it was called softening line smoother. If anyone knows if they have re branded this as something else, could they let me know.
I've tried other primers but nothing compares to this, its excellent:)

I used Gosh/Smashbox primer, and I liked the feel of them on my skin but didnt actually notice any difference in my make up.
I use the Loreal one now just around my chin and nose where makeup would slide off/where I have open pores and it definately makes it last longer.
I wouldnt say primer is a must-have, but its a nice little luxury imo.

I usually use the Gosh primer and find it excellent and find my make-up lasts longer and looks better (smoother).

I recently got a sample of the Clarins Hydra-Matte cream and it is amazing, better than Gosh, but also more expensive, so personally I'd only use the Clarins for special occasions.

I also once tried the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and it did nothing for me tbh. I didn't notice any difference in my make-up whatsoever.

I love to use it on my arms and legs when I have a tan...it gives a gorgeous sheen, what do you want to use it for and I'll be able to tell you a bit more...

Here's some reviews http://w7x.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=38877/Skin-Smoothie/Fake-Bake/Self-Tanners and the cheapest place to buy from is probably feelunique and they also do free shipping.
