    Hi all,

Has anyone bought diamonds from online sites such as www.bluenile.ie?
They seem to offer far better value and seem to have all the right accreditations with the GIA? but are there any testamonials from people who've bought from them?

    I presume you mean http://ie.bluenile.co.uk/

I don't have any experience of the site myself but I have read many good reports. They seem to have a base in Blanchardstown so at least part of the operation is local.

Well, I've done a simple search for 'bluenile scam' and the results are mixed.

A simple rule of thumb for consumer websites is that if they don't list their postal address, do not do business with them.

Blue Nile is a reputable company.

They might well be, they just don't look like that. Thing is it is difficult to trust someone selling an expensive commodity like diamonds when they don't list their address which is good for trust and don't list their RBN and other company details which are required by law. I just would not recommend taking a chance. It doesn't look like we are going to agree on this. The OP can decide for themselves.

I bought diamond earrings for my mother in law from Blue Nile and I couldn't fault their service: the earrings were delivered within 48h and the product was perfect!
This said, there was a bit of controversy recently about this company regarding the sourcing of their diamonds. Had I known this I would have thought twice about doing business with them...

    Food for thought....

My fiancé got my engagement ring there. Got all the certs and everything. He found them very helpful answered all his questions and sent the cert with the ring. I am thrilled with it:D

not sure what your looking at but its either the wrong thing or your confused.

    1. they dont have a hotmail email address they have a contact email address @bluenile.co.uk

    2. you can normally consider a company who has articles posted in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes etc to be reputible.:rolleyes:

    3. They are listed on the New York Stock Exchange - Nasdaq. So I guess you would be wary that the SEC allow scam companies list on them :rolleyes:

I was referring to the address here: http://www.bluenile.ie/contacts/contact_us.php

The other Bluenile, is indeed legit, but nevertheless buries its postal address which doesn't help trustworthiness.

the first address is wrong its for a juice distributution company.

Any company can be untrustworthy just look at Enron. Having your address front and centre doesnt change that.

However its fair to assume a company that sells diamonds that are certified by the 2 big global certification companies, that is listed on the Nasdaq, has regulalry recieved good press in Forbes, WSJ etc, is as trustworthy as you can get when it comes to buying online. address or no address.

Not to mention if something were to go wrong a simple chargeback dispute to the credit card company and problem is solved.

It's a simple rule of thumb for online B2C marketing to have it somewhere reasonably prominent like the contact page, as opposed to buried. It's the number 1 tip listed here for consumers to check for: http://www.fraud.org/tips/internet/general.htm

It's a bit of an irony that you just mentioned Enron.

Blue Nile refuses to say if any of its so-called conflict free diamonds are cut & polished in Israel where revenue from the diamond industry funds the Israeli military which stands accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Ask them if they sell diamonds crafted in Israel and see what response you get, if any.
