    Hi all,

I'm just wondering that once you fill in the learner permit form and send it away. How long does it take you to get the permit?

I want to know because I passed my theory test in Feburary but I want to get the permit before the new rules come in on April 4th.

I'd appreicate if anyone would reply to this.

Yeah but I misread a part of the application and I thought I needed to do a medical report for my category when really I didn't.

I plan to put my application in on monday. I hope it's enough time to get my permit out before April 4th.

You probably will be ok, but go straight to the MTO instead of posting it - will cut down on the wait a bit. Also, it can't be any harm to mention to the person at the desk that if it's possible, could you get it as soon as possible to avoid having an LP issued after April 4th.

    Best of luck!

I know you got it sorted but just for anyone wondering the same thing.. A friend of mine did her theory on Wednesday, went to put in the application the same day and got it yesterday in the post! No waiting around at all really!

Haven't others received theirs straight away, I brought the form to the tax office and was given the license straight away?

I'm hoping I'm as lucky as you all. Handed it into the motor tax office last Wednesday and as of yet nothing back. The girlfriend handed her stuff in to a different motor tax office the same day and got her permit in the post yesterday.

Is it too late now? Is it the date of submission or issuing they count?

Bring your paperwork in yourself. Have a nice word with the person behind the counter and they might be able to issue your permit before the 4th. You've got nothing to lose!

Hi, I passed my theory test on Thursday March 24th, managed to get an eye test appointment in Specsavers on Grafton St on Saturday March 26th, went straight into the Nutgrove Motor Taxation Office first thing on Monday March 28th and received my learner permit in the post this morning dated March 28th so I just managed to get in under the old rules. I had been a bit worried too!

    Hi

I'm 16 and i passed the theory test in February. I got the theory test certificate instead of a learner's permit because i am not 17. Will i have to take the theory test again to get my provisional license ?

    Thanks

What are the chances of the tax office issuing the learners permit then and there when you go in? I've the eye test Friday an It'll be too late then if it all has to go through the post

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 71 ✭✭Melissa89

Passed my theory on tuesday, heading to motor tax office today and keeping my fingers and toes crossed that there's some hope of me having mine issued before the 4th!

I don't know if they do that. It might not be too late, if they issue it Friday, then post it. You might be ok, i think someone on here said they have to post it.

As far as I know they don't issue them then and there, mine was posted to me, there was no option for me to call back and collect it. I left mine in to be processed on Monday just gone (28th) and got it in the post today. They date it was issued was the 28th.. So if you get it in today or tomorrow you might be in luck!

Does anyone know if I will be able to go and get my daughters drivers permit or does she have to go in herself?

They told me in the Motor Tax Office that mine would be done tomorrow (I went in at 3:45), so if you can deliver it yourself you might be in with a chance, depends on the office too, but they told me today that they're doing all permits before Monday! Good luck, hope you get it!

I went to the tax office with my application on Wednesday and got my Learner Permit today (Friday)... :) I think you're better off going in in person instead of posting it.

If you have to get your learners permit renewed and it is not sent in before April 4th, would you be affected by the new regulations?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Compton

    no only new permits issued

The date on my learner permit is the same date as i went to the tax office so id reckon anybody who gets down there tomorrow morning should be fine. Be warned tho the ques are huge its jammers with people just turning up and demanding permits without having done the theory test or anything.

How its OK to resurrect this thread. My daughter applied for a learner permit today and they said it could take up to 4 weeks to get it. Has anyone applied lately, how long did it take, thanks?
