Last time this occurred was 18 years ago. Best time to see it will be 18.50 when it will appear it's largest (moonrise). Scienticians don't predict any catastrophes as a result of it although tides will be a little higher.

I will agree that he took it a bit too far but I'd also kinda feel sorry for anyone who can't take real pleasure in witnessing special events in nature - they can affect you in a deeply profound way if you let them.

The moon was going to turn into the sun,it was the first time you could see the sun at night,it looked great from my house anyway.

The 14% difference refers to the size difference between the moons apogee (Furthest point of orbit from Earth) to the moons perigee (closest point of orbit to the earth). The moon last night at it's perigee was 625 miles (1,006 kms) closer to Earth than this time last month so there was only a 0.3% difference in size appearance at it's perigee. The size difference was hardly noticeable to the naked eye but still the closest the moon has been to Earth in 18 years...
