Ford Focus MkII headlight bulbs

The passenger side dip bulb failed on my focus. I went to Halfords and got bulbs for dip and main beam for both sides and changed all of them.

Roll on the NCT test and it failed, the certificate says "assy" under nearside dip. My understanding of what the guy said was that a bulb hadn't been fully clipped in. I took off the bulb housing again and the clip for the bulb wasn't quite home, so I pushed it in.

But it never looked much out of alignment and doesn't look any different now, so I don't quite know if I have done the job or not and don't want to fail the NCT again.

    Any observations welcome.

Is it the dip or main beam out?

    The dip looks like this:

See the circle part and then you can see a little flat piece sticking out well that goes on top.

I've heard of that as well. Cars have been failed for the bulb not being in situ correctly. The spring clip wasn't in properly around the bulb and it was failed for it.

Ford are the greatest bastards out there.

They have their own way of wiring things, and they will not share it on the net

I've a mate with a problem, local Ford guys have no idea.

    I can't get diagrams.

Its a dickey sensor... but which one?

Just reporting back on this. Indeed the spring clip wasn't quite in place around the bulb. I snapped it properly and it passed the NCT.

Moral. Do the job properly the first time.
