Just wondering has anyone travelled the Dublin - Heathrow route with Aer Lingus and just used other photo ID other than their passport?
Their site say that they do accept other forms of ID...

But I just wanted to know that other people of experienced it so I don't rock on up sans passport and be told to go home :(

To/from Ireland/UK, Aer Lingus will let you travel with one of the ID's listed.

Only Ryanair insist on a passport. (Another scam)

No scam. The rule simplifies their operations. Passports are required for all flights, period. This includes all domestic flights as well - and not only in Ireland, also within Spain, Italy and so on. One rule. As simple as it gets.

Well then how are ei stating on their website that they accept other forms of photo id on flights to the uk? Surely If it is "one rule" as you say, what ei is stating is illegal which I severly doubt they would do as,

    A) They would be fined to the hilt.
    B) When landing into the uk, obviously you have to clear customs. A passenger would nor gain access into uk on an Irish drivers licence if it was then " one rule " only as you explained, on uk flights.

No. As far as immigration is concerned, no passport is required between the UK and Ireland (for UK and Irish citizens). And within a country, there is no immigration and so no passport requirement either. But Ryanair as the carrier have an additional requirement that everyone have a passport on all flights. This is a carrier requirement, not an immigration one. So it does not affect EI in any way. They are free to set their own rules as they see fit.

if you land at Heathrow or London City, there is no check. If you land at Gatwick or Stansted you have a separate lane where you show your boarding pass, no photo id is required.

The only id you need is a passport for ryanair or a passport or driving licence for BMI, flybe, cityjet or Aer lingus.

If you are travelling with Ryanair then it is needed. Otherwise a photo ID is ok, I used my work pass recently on an Air France/City Jet trip to London.

Does anyone know if a passport is mislaid the night before the flight from Dublin to Heathrow with Aer Lingus can a driving licence be used instead and is there a fee to change?

The flight hasn't been checked in but we cant remember was a passport selected as form of ID when booking

You are getting mixed up with ryanair.

With aer lingus you dint need to enter unnecessary passport details and they don't unnecessarily impose a passport requirement to the uk

This all is on their website by the way.
Licence is fine. (For domestic and uk flights for irish/ British citizens)
