    Hi,

I'm considering doing an online course in graphic design, after 3 years it leads to a BA honours degree, the school is based in the UK.

The fees are about 4000 sterling per year and I am a mature student.

I am wondering if I am entitled to any financial support from the irish or UK government and where should I be looking for these answers?

    All help appreciated.

    Regards

Wouldn't know the Situation regarding online courses, but maybe check with the Student Finance group in the UK to get a Tuition Fee loan?

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance/index.htm

If you are eligible for it you can get a tuition loan payable for your tuition fees and then you repay it back when you have finished your degree and earning more than £15,000. The Interest rate AFAIK is 1.5% also (unless there may be changes with the new Government)

You may be able to apply for an Irish Grant, but again don't know 100% the situation as regards online courses? Maybe someone else may shed more light on the subject

look carefully into whether the qualification is accredited and likely to be recognised by employers....assuming you are doing this to get a job.

Firstly, ASSUME it is not accredited....then PROVE yourself wrong! Caveat emptor/ buyer beware

    Thanks for the replies.

I am already trying to find out more about the school and the course qualifications but it is difficult to find much information on the internet

I have spoken to the school itself and they told me that the qualifications are legit.

    If anyone wants to check...

i would be dubious as to whether this course would get assistance.

i think there is a definite list of approved courses and if a course is not on it then you wont get assistance.
in addition i think you have to be a full time student to get a grant. that might be difficult to prove with an online course. also the awarding authority want verification you are attending before they make payments.
