Generally the WC jersey comes out in July/August, when WC fever is starting to peak.

I posted this a while back, might be an insight: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056206028

thats a great looking jersey :)

I'd question its authenticity. That might be what the jersey will look like, but I'm not sure that is a replica. The RWC logo just looks photoshopped, the IRFU logo looks really shabby and plastic and the material of the jersey is strange.

I wonder could this one (from the same video as the Heaslip one) be our new alternate jersey? Its really nice, a lot better than the turquoise one!

Sorry, didn't see couchsmart already had this up on another thread!

New Ireland Jersey emerges... different neck and some kind of raised pattern on the chest??

Plus the White 'AWAY' Jersey is back... no more Skype Blue Jerseys!

Release date is 7 July. I'm not 100% fan of the home jersey, especially when you see it on the players. Might grow on me though!

  • The away Jersey could not be more boring.

It's a white tshirt that doubles as an ad for o2

Why do Ireland's rugby jersey's include sponsors on them, much like the replica football jerseys for the Republic.

You buy an AB jersey, a Pumas jersey, a France jersey - no corporate **** on the chest. It looks horrible with the sponsor on it.

The football team are the only national team in the world to include sponsors on their replica jerseys.

You never noticed the big VISA on the puma jersey no?

The only teams that don't have a sponsor are NZ and France, because they don't need one. They're loaded.

adidas and Nike pay for exclusivity. So nz and France do have a sponsor on the jersey, it just happens to be the manufacturer also

And thousands of suckers pay 'extra' for them. And as long as they do, they will continue.

I got a jersey the exact same colour as the Leinster jersey, brought it to a good T-shirt printing company and got them to put Leinster in the same font.

Bingo. A beautiful jersey without the sh1t on it. I'll be doing the same for an Ireland jersey soon.

Yeah but he's right to an extent. I was looking for a Leinster jersey last year so I went out of my way to buy the "supporters jersey", mainly because it didn't have the Bank Of Ireland sponsor's logo on it.

Mind you, that's mostly because I didn't want to wear anything with a bank logo on it after how those incompetent and corrupt bastards have destroyed this country (I mean the management of those institutions). I have no problem with other sponsors such as O2.

He said the jerseys have sponsors because "suckers' keep buying them, and that he would prefer if the fans refused to buy them until they get rid of the sponsors. That's what I was referring to when I said he's fighting a losing battle.

I see that TOL is in one of the promo photos for the new jersey along with BOD, Darcy and Heaslip.

I presume this means he's on the plane. If this is true I really do despair. Reddan, Boss and Murray are light years ahead.

I think we should be glad to have companies like these on board to keep Irish rugby going. The money that O2 gives to the IRFU doesn't go to waste, it trickles down to the grassroots level to by rugby balls for U-8's and whatnot.

I think it's a pretty good trade - money for clubs around the country in exchange for a letter and a number on a jersey.

So why does England's Nike jersey have O2 as it's sponsor? I doubt Nike paid for exclusivity on France's jersey and not England's. I would imagine the England jersey outsells the French one handsomely.

It's simply because the ABs and France choose not to have a sponsorship logo for marketing reasons. For the ABs in particular, it would change the appearance of the jersey (the best selling rugby shirt in the world) dramatically, and weaken its appeal.

Maybe you're right about the gallic approach to jersey sponsors. But when adidas took over from ccc steinlager was dropped form the AB shirt because adidas wanted their logo to be the only one on the jersey with the silver fern.

They're all very different deals. It is immaterial if the same kit manufacturer is involved. England get sponsorship revenue from two parties, the FFR and NZ from one.
The total amounts however could be the very same.

I've seen people call the white Irish jersey the away jersey. I've always thought that there was no away jerseys in international rugby. Just an alternative home jersey with the home team changing kits when there is a colour clash. Am I right or am I wrong ?

You are pretty much right, but at the world cup we could play South Africa or whoever in NZ, and neither team would be at home.

I think they flip for it. Didn't it happen to NZ / Scotland and NZ / France at the last world cup?

Last world cup there was a supporters jersey, with the sponsor logo, and there was a replica jersey with no logo. I bought the no logo version as it was faaar nicer, but also more expensive.

Not sure i have the cash to splash out on a more expensive no-logo version this time, if one is released

EDIT: in fact here we go, €70 on eleverys site

    Think i paid 120 euro in 2007! :o

Although they have another jersey listed as the "Puma Ireland Home 2011 Rugby World Cup Test Jersey" for €100 with no photo.

So theres the 2011 home jersey with 02 logo €66
Theres the 2011 home world cup jersey €70
And 2011 home world cup TEST jersey €100

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 416 ✭✭Faker74

I'd say the 2007 version you paid 120 euro for must have been that years equivalent of the Test jersey. The test being the one the players wear and designed to be more fitted to you.

Still pretty steep prices all the same. I orderd my test shirt from the elvery's website, they are giving 15% off at the moment. Word of caution though, if you are ordering a test shirt go try it on somewhere first, I had to go 2 sizes larger than normal to avoid something that wasn't going to cut off my breathing! (I know they are meant to be fitted but even one size larger would have left me blue in the face after half an hour in the thing!)

Yeah i remember when i went to get it in 2007, i went to try on a medium in arnotts (and im a scrawny lil fecker :D ) and i couldnt actually get it on! Felt like id have to dislocate a shoulder to get into it. Think i got a large in the end, so i had a bit of room in it, didnt want it to be skint tight even though thats how they are designed.

Dunno if ill get a jersey this time around, maybe. Its just that i much prefer them without the logo so the world cup ones are more my cup of tea

Must say, not really liking either the WRC version or the Standard version of this years Kit.

Was thinking of updating my Irish kit because im moving to the UK in a few weeks, I'm still rocking this Irish Jersey
    Aplogies for the strange picture
    229253.jpg
Think I'll invest in the White Munster Away Kit instead this year.

Got a Lovell Rugby RWC catalogue in the post today, and it has a range of Irish gear in it, including the 2011/2013 home and alternate, as worn against Scotland and France respectively.

It also has the RWC home and alternate, and this is where it gets weird- the home, as on every other site, is the standard jersey with no o2 logo and the RWC crest instead, but the alternate is NOT the same as the one worn against the French, but is a plain white version of the home (with the 'bra', and with the buttony thing at the side of the collar). It does NOT have green and gey trimmings or the standard round neck as per the other alternate.

Surprised by this, i checked their site, and on there they have the RWC version of the jersey worn against the French.

Do you think they just went to print too early with this catalogue and had a guess at what it would be? has anyone actually seen the alternate RWC jersey in the flesh yet? If so, can you confirm which it is- opposite of the home, or as worn on Saturday?

The one in the catalogue actually looks quite decent, and I'd think about ordering, if I was sure that it's actually what I'd get...

They dropped it from the shirt but still had it on the training gear until very recently.

Just wondering, will there be an "Authentic" / "Test" world cup jersey or will there only be replicas for the World Cup jersey as opposed to the normal jersey which is available as a replica and an Authentic match jersey. Anyone have any idea? Thanks.

I remember trying on the 2007 one in a shop in Limerick. I got it on, and it fit a bit tight, but then I couldn't get it off! I was in the changing room for about 15 minutes, and thought I was going to suffocate when I had it halfway over my head at one point!

I'm living in America now, and I really want the jersey, preferrably the test one, but the only place I can get it is online, and I have no idea what the sizing is going to be like. Don't know what to do about it.

Had a look at the grip on the front in Elverys the other day - it's like glue. Give a player a strong enough headwind and he'd be able to slap the ball onto his chest and run hands free...

It is the new 2011 test version, yes.
