I went to Thailand in 2009 and i think it was around €3 a transaction. Could be wrong though! I was with BOI at the time and I had a nightmare getting money out of a lot of ATM's over there. I rang them to sort it out and I got 3 different excuses as to why this was happening, there customer service was terrible. When I did find an ATM that would take my card there was a limit of around €80.

    Anyway, enjoy your trip!

My advice would be set up another bank account with a different bank as it was a pain in the ass not being able to take out what I wanted and I spent a load on ATM fees alone :(

Was there this time last year. It was working out at about €3 pet transaction for me, when the exchange rate was taken into consideration.

The atm machines in popular tourist locations would only let you take out a certain amount at a time. Apparently this was to target tourists who would need to do a number transactions quite regularly.

I was with aib at the time and was able to get a couple of hundred euros a transaction. Others who were with me could take out no more than 70 or so. Not sure who they banked with.

Have you thought of ringing Bank of Ireland and asking them? Surely they are the ones who can give you a correct answer instead of the guesses here?

If you have a credit card just preload it with money and use that to take your cash out. No charge then.

Not 100% sure on this but maybe use one of those pre-paid credit cards either. Don't know if they work in ATM's but defo safer to use on holidays than your normal credit card.

I wouldn't preload your credit card if I was you at all. You're insured on your credit card for your limit only - ie if you have a limit of €500 and you put €1,000....card gets stolen you can kiss goodbye to the €500. Was told this by someone in the bank. Also if there's a problem with your credit card & this is your only access to funds then you're in trouble. Trust me had a lot of hassle with this when I was in America a couple of years ago.
