I am considering doing the JEB IT teacher training course, which starts in September. It should qualify you to teach IT to anybody. I'm mainly doing it because I think it will look good on an application to secondary education teaching; it also fits in nicely to my job, as it runs every saturday for 14 weeks.

Anyone have any experience of it? Is it a worthwhile course? Is it worth the fee?

I did the course, haven't really used it much, although it is good to fire into conversations when you're discussing IT Training with people. Now you mention it though I must add it to the old CV.

The course iteself was ok for me, but those with kids and full time jobs found it tough going to get the piece of work at the end in. AFAIK though all bar one in my class passed, bar one guy who didn't show for the test.

this course now has a new name - be careful of where you do it though as not all colleges teach it the same..

Hi would recommend it big time the difficult part is the psychology module which in the exam you have to answer 3 questions out of 6 .. essay style but if you get head down before hand it not that bad, There is also the practical exam which is a bit hairy .... teaching 2 classes but it a brilliant experiance!! Then you have to create a scheme of work for a 10 week course plus four assingments, plus a written exam too in ICT. Yes it tough but found it great challange . . would deffo do it !

Hi yes, just completed the course. It was definitely worth doing and enjoyed it no end. Am now trying to find work in the area so that will be the test whether it was worth doing - any tips on finding work in area would be helpful. Anyone done the Train the Trainer - the long course that is - heard there was a good one in Galway - NUI I think

I have done the JEB also and currently working in a CE scheme teaching basic computer classes.

Part of being on the CE scheme is that you get funding to do additional training and was thinking of doing Train the Trainer but FÁS who gives the ok for each course reckon it’s too similar to the JEB and there is no need to do it.

Many jobs out there seem to require the Train the Trainer and i need to convince FÁS that it would be beneficial to me.
Can anyone point out any main differences between the two and why it would be good to have both.
