I assume this is only when you use your wipers in the rain?
    If so,
    Try this first
get a couple of cans of Coke ( the real stuff)
Next time it rains pour it from the top of the screen allowing it to flow over as much of your screen as possible... Give it a minute..Turn on wipers and allow them do do a few wipes.. Stop them and repeat. You SHOULD have a nice clear screen for another few weeks.

    Try it
    it is well worth it.

Coke or Coca Cola. Coke would be a bit expensive for that imo..:D

There's a stubborn, greasy film on the exterior of my car windscreen and I'm thinking of using the product in the link below; Halfords Intensive Glass Cutter.

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_219650_langId_-1_categoryId_229903#dtab

    Has anyone used this?

Do you think it's safe to use?

Is it possible that a cutting compound could scratch or cause damage to the glass?

I've used it plenty of times with no ill affects to my car. It's no more abrasive than a polish (you wipe it on, dry to a haze, then rub off) and certainly nowhere near abrasive as cutting compound. It's very safe as far as I'm concerned and will clean off that grease no bother. Just remember to clean your wiper blades in warm soapy water too otherwise you'll just smear the greasiness back onto your freshly cleaned glass all over again.

Thanks buddy, I'll give the Halfords Glass Cutter a go. It sounds like good stuff.

I'm not interested in using RainX tbh. I've read plenty of bad reviews on that product, eg. causing smearing on the glass once it rains and the product starts to wear away. There was even a thread here before where a poster was complaining about Rain X.

No offence, but that sounds like a terrible idea tbh! :D

    I agree,
When I was told that by a guy many moons ago when i was travelling over and back to Scotland several times a week and my screen was shocking I laughed at him.. he swore by this method and demonstrated on his screen first... i could not believe what i saw.. hence headed straight for the Shop and stocked up on bottles of coke.. Brilliant it was. You should try it..

Haven't used the halfords stuff but I've never found a better glass cleaner than white vinegar wiped off with a sheet of newspaper
