I'm very interested in getting a new home phone and broadband company off the ground but have run into huge brick walls in doing my r&d.
Im trying to get prices from eircom as regards cost of supply to the end user but am getting pushed from pillar to post with no info coming. Their wholesale website is no use and come have told me that pricing is down to eircom and its an area they don't get involved in.

Does anybody know what is the wholesale line rental price for a start up and what is the cost of supplying broadband? If anybody has this information or even ballpark figures that would be a massive help.

    What about the reference offer?

    http://www.eircomwholesale.ie/Reference-Offers/RIO/

does that not tell you what you need to know? Of course, you need to put together all the various pieces.

There are various white labellers in the market too.

This is really a business for someone with a lot of capital to get into. I don't know what the point would be in getting into the business now to be honest. BT had to get out of it. Others are having a tough time too. Unless you have something really value-added to put into it (for example some sort of novel landline mobile integration), I'd be very careful.

Yep its a tough business right now. My first company was doing something similar 10 years ago and I was able to get all our clients door to door, but im not sure thats going to be as easy now. When I was doing it, it was only BT and Eircom and they both had door to door companies working for them. Add to that the few dozen more competitors around now and it would be very tough.

One of the reasons I sold was because DSL was coming in, and there wasnt much of a margin to be made on it.

If you really want to give it a shot and eircom arent replying to you, check out the ComReg site http://www.comreg.ie/

By the way when I was in the business Eircom were only allowed to put their prices at a certain point so competition could flourish and it meant they were the most expensive on the market. So if that is still the case the reason they arent replying is probably because the less competitors the better for them.

Its also a ruthless business, I lost 40 customers one day because a competitors sales force targeted my customers telling them we were going bankrupt.
