    Hi all
I want to buy a good pair of bib shorts for the summer, can anyone recommend a good buy or what do you have that you find comfortable.
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    Cheers.

Bought a pair of these today. Just back from a 50km spin and must say there really comfortable. Have been using Wiggles DHB bib tight during the winter without to many problems.

I'd like to buy some shorts that dont have everything on show, if you catch my drift

something I can wear into a shop/pub during a Summer cycle but also race in, so no baggy shorts. Im thinking of this http://www.velodromeshop.org.uk/index.php?p=product&id=1319

it's hard to tell from the photo how it will look, I just dont want a 'Linford lunchbox'

I suffer dreadfully from the prominence of my 'package' so I feel your pain. One simply doesn't like to scare people. I applaud your sense of modesty, which mirrors my own attempts to keep 'the beast' in check.

I suspect you may be younger than me so, in a sense, I feel as if I am passing on the baton.

    Chapeau sir!

It's a genuine question, I'm self consious about those things and would feel naked in lycra, I got some Aldi shorts before but didnt feel comfortable in them so never wore them

The Santini bibs you linked are standard lycra shorts. Ultimately you are just going to have to get used to wearing lycra, especially if you are racing. I understand the sensitivity which I had myself starting off but you actually dont look so out of place in lycra when on the bike, it looks normal. We all have genitalia. Stopping at the pub during a race is not so common these days (it happened in the early Tour) but for other scenarios you could consider bringing something that you could slip on over the lycra; that is what I do here in India and in Arab countries before going in to a village. In Ireland, for a cafe stop, I think you will quickly find it normal especially if everyone else in the group is also clad in lycra.

Agree. Have their cheaper bib shorts and they're great.

Was in the same boat. Every time I put lycra on I'd freak a bit and cover up, but then I realised everytime i was out that I was actually the only one wearing something over the lycra so probably drew more attention to myself and to non-cyclists I;m just some other lycra clad cyclist.

I did however wear them to the track for training forst to get more used to them.

Anyway lets just say that an hour in, the package may not resemble what it did at the start

I have put many long long kms in on my Specialized RBX shorts (I have a few pairs) and can't fault them. They last for ages and still seem new. Not the cheapest but I really recommend.

    Thanks for all the replies,

I wasn't sure what the difference was between different shorts but its obvious that you get what you pay for. I would rather spend 100e on a good pair with proper padding that will last rather than a cheaper pair of poorer quality.

Don't think my budget will go as far as the Assos shorts but I like the coolmax ones that Paddy recommended. Will probably try them.

Thanks again for the tips. Cheers

Just wondering what the shorts and jersey sets on ebay are like? They work out around €40 to €45 for the set which is half the price of cycle shops. Bargain or Rubbish

They are mostly chinese cheap crap, they work great for commuting or short rides, but anything longer and they will let you down.

I've been considering a pair of their 3/4 length bibs recently but their site is a bit vague on sizing (currently shows as "sizing guide being updated" or something along those lines). When I e-mailed them they were very quick to respond and very helpful too, all of which encourages me to buy from them. I seem to fall on the boundary of their small and medium sizes though and although they suggested that I could buy one size and they'd ship me a pair in the other size at the same time so that I could return whichever didn't fit (amazing customer service!), they are unfortunately all out of stock of the small. I am sure that they'd honour their promise to refund me if I were to buy the mediums and found they didn't fit but it's a bit of hassle that has made me hesitant to take the plunge.

I know that everyone's fit is different on some respect or other but if you already have a pair of ShuttVR shorts and have also tried Assos can you tell me whether the sizing seems to match between the two?

If no-one here can answer the question for you they have their own forum too which might help.

You get what you pay for, the jerseys aren't perfectly fitting but do the job. The chamois is like paper though so I would first invest in a good pair of Santini bibs
