Tissot Problem

    Hi all,

My better half saved up and bought me a lovely Tissot watch but I have a problem with it... I seem to be allergic to the material in the strap. It's a rubber material that's moulded onto the black face of the watch.

I hate not being able to wear it and feel a bit guilty as it was a present!
Does anyone know if Tissot make different straps or if other companies make them?

I don't know would I be better off selling it and going shopping with my missis to buy a new watch that has a different kind of strap.

    Thanks for your help!

Allergic to the rubber? Are you sure it's not the metal back? That's the more common and likely I'd reckon, then again who knows what the rubber is giving off to affect you. I've had a couple of leather straps give me a slight rash for no apparent reason and I'm otherwise allergic to very little. Maybe see if that model came with a metal bracelet as an option?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yeah it just irritates my wrist under the palm of my hand. Definitely not a metal thing as its happened with another watch before.

Its a tissot t-touch trekking watch and from what I can see, the only replacement options are the same material, and cost €100+ :(

I usually wear an old gshock with a more plastic type of material in the strap that causes no hassle.

I have the boss' permission to put it on adverts.ie and use the proceeds to go shopping for another type of watch, but obviously Id be happier to get a replacement strap for this one but it just doesnt seem that theres one available. Generic ones wont work because the rubber strap works around the metal face.

Ah right. Takes a specific strap. Bugger.

Is there any chance it could be a metal clasp/buckle on the strap which is irritating you? If I understand you correctly, this would match the position on your wrist that you are saying is irritated...
If the other watch you mention had a plastic buckle it would also explain why that one doesn't pose a problem for you.

It could be a heat thing I suppose but I don't think it's to do with the metal bit. Its irritating all the way around the strap.

There could be generic straps but I searched high and low and couldn't find one that'd fit.

Or you could just load up on anti-histamines before you wear it :)

Just to put an end to this thread, the watch left for its new home today and all is well. Thanks for the help!

I'll be needing some tips on a new watch but will start a new thread.
    Thanks again!

    Congrats on getting it sold.

I know that it's a bit late, but the problem may have been caused by a buildup of sweat or soap in the clasp, which can be sorted with a good cleaning (check out the ultrasonic cleaners in Aldi from time to time). I see this a lot at work with people having reactions to rings.

As far as I'm aware, most modern watch manufacturers now use hypo-allergenic materials to avoid people having allergic reactions. Sometimes with the likes of a metal clasp on a leather or rubber strap, a light coating of clear nail varnish can work wonders, as the skin is no longer in direct contact with the metal (also sometimes works with the buttons on jeans).

I got a very nice Tissot in April, but now there is a rash on my wrist. It is almost certainly from the strap, not the clasp. It is a great pity. I supose I will have to try and get it re-strapped.

I got a Tissot in February, leather strap. Getting a rash/irritation on my wrist in the area where the buckle meets my skin.

You may be allergic to the nickel in the buckle. Maybe find a titanium one on Ebay, it should be hypoallergenic.

I'm fairly sure you can actually install different straps on Tissot Touch watches :-

Nifty thread from WUS showing a few options including mesh :-

    http://forums.watchuseek.com/f62/t-touch-titaniuim-non-tissot-leather-strap-253630.html

(note you need to make sure you have non-magnetic spring bars or it gooses the compass, or use whatever spring bars come with, presuming they fit the strap).

I'm also certain I've seen them on OEM brown leather.
