    No. Certaintly a pop-up can't.

There's not really enough info here though to make a conclusion. If it was a mail in the junk folder, it's probably just spam and is more than likely just a random piece of spam mail completely unrelated to your husband's online activities.

The easiest way to find out is to search the email history for the names of one of the other sites and see if there's a welcome or confirmation email.

If you work at the isp and then check who has leased the ip address and then check their account information then I guess it's possible. For a porn site/ pop up spammer it's impossible.

Are you sure it's not just regular porn spam? Your hubby may have accidentally (or not) clicked on a link but that may have nothing to do with this email. The two may not be related. His reaction seems a bit weird though. If he has any sort of IT know how then he should realise that these sites don't get your email address from your ip address. If however he doesn't have any IT know how then he might just be searching for an explanation.

    Sounds like spam.

Sounds like spam to me but even if it isn't, boys will be boys?

Agreed, sounds like spam. If it isn't, then you need to talk to your husband about it. Do you have an issue with 'adult' websites?

Yeah it sounds like spam to me.

Porn sites are notorious for spam. They have programmes to randomly estimate email addresses based on all sorts or permutations.

Also, if your husband was looking at those sites would he have used an email address you share? He could easily have set up another to keep it away from you.

    I'd guess it's spam.

It's bound to be spam. Honestly, it really is. I'm guessing your husband isn't a computer guy since he wouldn't have said the IP address can be used to get your email.

What email do you use? As in Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo/etc?

    Probably spam.
I got an email direct into my account the other day from someone who may or may not be in my contacts (I'm not sure, didn't recognise the name, but gmail collects all email addresses in emails you receive and adds them to your contacts list quite frequently), telling me they were on something called "desktop dating" and did I want to join.
I deleted it, then checked out the site in Google, as I wanted to know how it got straight into my inbox (my spam filters are set to exclusive). Turns out it's some sort of viral thing whereby if you click "yes I do want to be friends/join", it collects all the email addresses in your contacts list and generates emails to each of them too.
If you're really worried about it, you need to have a serious chat with your husband, but there's many, many ways these emails can find their way into an inbox.

Years ago, when I was not as au fait with using the internet, I had looked up some porn on google. The website said it would give me access if I typed in my password. Of course, I got tons of spam from then on, half of it was that bloody adult friend finder etc. I've learned my lesson, I'm guessing your husband has too!

I wouldn't worry about this, I get these emails all the time about "Girls with massive t1ts" etc. and how I've visited site x, y and z despite the fact I've never been near them.

It is definitely span in my opinion. Your e-mail address can be sold by a company who has it such as a social networking site or any site that requires you to supply one in order to become a member.

I reckon that it was spam, but when you confronted him he panicked and told you he clicked on a pop up. Perhaps he was being honest with you and this is all a coincidence, but even if it wasn't watching porn is not a terrible thing. Guys do it all the time, and still have healthy sex lives.

Does it matter if its spam or not?

First I just read your own post but not all the replies.

It sounds like spam to me. I have an email account that I use for one work related thing and I get similar emails in my junk folder. I have nver looked at any porn sites or opened any emails. Sounds like spam to me.

not really, but more than likely it is spam.

if the email address was used for anything online theres a possibility of it being passed onto spammers.

Also, spambots randomely guess email addresses so it could be that.

generally though (esp if hotmail/gmail/yahoo) if the mail was in the junk mail folder its usually because its not from a ligitimate business (ie known spammers)

and tbh, even if he was looking at porn would it really matter that much?

I don't think the OP is concerned about her email address being passed on to spammers :P

I think the question she has is whether or not her husband has been looking at porn which is a non-issue imo

i was only demonstrating how the email may have come to fruition, but yes i agree its somewhat of a non issue.

As everyone else has said it's probably just spam; people who have never been on a porn site in their lives can still get these.

OP, I didn't really read all this thread but your the one with the problem here, it's porn, so what, move on.
