Scangauge. 110 euro and works with any car with OBD2 port, which means anything from about 97 or so iirc.

There aint a such thing as a cheap diagnostics, you can get cheap fault code reader that will work with EOBD2, They will tell you what code the Engine Malfunction light is and turn it off. It will not allow you to connect to any other cars systems just engine EOBD.

It you have a VAG car i would say try VCDS more commonly known as VAGCOM, which can be had for about €300.

If you are looking for full on Diagnostics, you have BrainBee,Autoboss,Snap-On,Launch just to name a few, but your looking at minimum of €2000

this one sounds good, does it read all diagnostics or just some do you know? over the past while ive been paying €30 at garage just to have diagnostics read or a service light turned of and am thinking sure would it be a good idea to invest in one therefore can always check car make sure it going ok and if something wrong i can get it fixed asap

do many of you have one or do you really need to know how to operate one and read the codes correctly?

The above will read and define the codes and can reset them if needed.

It doesn't show live data and anything in depth but will do the job on all eobd and obd2 cars which is pretty much everything sold in Ireland since the late 90's.
