I have just come back from a fortnights work in the south of France and it sickened me the amount of game I saw

From as soon as I left Cherbourg we were spotting roe everywhere, lost count after about 60 !!, saw big groups of 10/15 and I swear one group was in the exact same spot in a field of tillage on the way back that we saw them in on the way down

first evening went for a walk just before dusk, 2 mins off the road up a little valley, 7 boar cross the field bout 80yds in front of me, slowly moved bout 150 yds across the valley floor and off into the oak woods. Stalked up on countless roe on my evening walks, all within 10 mins off the village :D

Back again in August and bringing the rifle this time, the local plumber is a big shooting man and said he'd organise some sport for me, got few local permissions as well !!

Drooled over a nice Merkel 300 winmag semiauto in local RFD too, €1,200

Raging never brought my camera could have got some great pics

Way to rub it in there tfox. :p Nice one though. I got the train from Memmingen to Konstanz during the summer and all the way across the Bodensee it was much the same. Just fields of roe and foxes and kites, hunting stands and blinds everywhere. It was gorgeous. on the other hand, give me craggy, nasty mountains to climb and I'm a bit happier, so maybe I just wasn't appreciating it as much as others might. :)

Yeah I saw kites on the deer fence all along the autoroute, and countless high seats averywhere, some of them sitting right out in the middle of fields  !! Believe me if you want nasty craggy mountains where I was working was all that, steep cliffs and deep vallies and ravines everywhere with narrow green field running up the valley floor !! something like this http://www.guidex.com/Saint-Martin-de-Vers/rock.jpg

Yeah would be a lovely place to retire to, but what would you do between Feb and Aug, drinking wine and eating croissants would catch up on you ;)

Friendly plumber has an arsenal of guns and said I was welcome to use one !! Called into his house when I was over and he showed me his collection, all displayed in a nice glass cabinet inside his front door

Ah it's only a 9hr drive from Cherbourg, when I'm over in Aug I'll be driving again so no prob throwing the gun in :D
