Playing lessons

Just wondering if anyone has had "playing lessons"

Reason i ask is that in practice i hit a ball quite well for a high handicapper, i can hit all my clubs and on a practice range(grass) i never have an issue, ive been to 2 Pro's who look and say my swing is fine or actually quite good for the handicap but once i actually go on to a golf course it dissapears:mad:

as an example..played yesterday...in 18 holes i had 4 shots from approx 50 yards...made a mess of each and every one of them....2 way short(duffed), 1 way long(bladed) and 1 way left(no clue), so after the round i went out to the practice range when there is a 50 yard marker and i placed 40 out of 50 balls within 12 foot with the other 10 within 18, same shot on a course...and im fooked.

Would a playing lesson with a pro be of any use where i can actually show whats killing my game for real rather than just trying to explain it....any thoughts?

Yeah, got lessons. They were of great benefit. When I went in I was asked what I needed work on. Emmm, everything!!!. So what we worked on was the basics. Stance, grip and posture. I believe if you got them you have a great foundation when it comes to improving your game. Some of the changes made felt very awkward but I've persevered on the driving range and have got my h/c to 10 from 15.

Did you go out on the course with the pro?
I got lessons on swing grip stance etc, my problem is
That it works in practice but not on the course

No, didn't go out on the course, just did an hour on the basics on the range. Its always hard to take your game from the range to the course. I just think of the range as training, having a lot of swing thoughts and trying different things, then when i hit the course try not to have any swing thoughts hoping that the training has paid off. Its never that easy though as we all know! :o

hey just to let you know how i used to do my lessons was one 18 hole lesson (this illustrates your problems), then 3 normal lessons on practice ground (to work on what your problems), then one 9 hole lesson on the course (to show if any changes has caused any other problems), then back for 3 normal lessons on the practice area (to put in the final details) and then a 18 hole lesson on the course. i found that this worked so give it a try and think of it this way its not going to hurt your game

Plaaying lessons would be a good idea but I would look into the mental side of your game too. If you can hit the shots on the range with no pressure on you but can't repeat them on the course I would guess it's something in your head. I struggled with the same thing for years until I took a serious look at my mental game, helped immensly.

I agree with the riddler, a lot of its mental..... found myself playing pretty poorly around the greens at the weekend. Then noticed that i never settled on the exact shot i wanted to hit while i was addressing the ball. Once i focused a bit more and got any other shot ideas out of my head, i was playing much better.

Another thing to look at is how you line up the ball and where your aiming for, as a high handicapper (18 for me) i just aim for the centre of the green and hope to 2 putt. I've found aiming for the pin usually puts me in trouble, bunkers etc, and puts more pressure on my shots hence more chances of doing something wrong.
