To make a long story short I currently work full time but my contract is nearly over and I'm worried I won't find another job in my area.

I'm thinking about teaching some classes if I'm out of a job and I wanted advice on tax? The most I would be doing is about 4 hours a week so would I be entitled to the dole if I was only doing that many hours or do I have to register myself as self employed?

If you are working with a view to making a profit - you are trading, and therefore self-employed. Yes, you would have to register with the Revenue as self-employed.

Depending on your profit and your circumstances you may or may not be liable to tax.

    Hi,
Regarding social welfare if you meet all the other criteria such as available and genuinely seeking work, PRSI contributions etc you would qualify for jobseekers benefit. If you do end working four hours one day just sign off for the days you are working and claim for the days you are not working, called casual signing.

You can get more advice from citizen advice or through the social welfare website
