I've just been watching the jake the snake roberts pick your poison dvd and my god the man is a fu<kin genius.

vince please sober this guy up and get him to run the creative department for you his understanding of storylines and indeed wrestling as a whole is unreal.

i would highly reccommend this dvd to everyone - it should be manditory for all wrestlers - also such a harrowing tale of the trauma of his life.

He's a great wrestler, was in his time, but indeed alcohol and life has taken it's toll...still, his image must be under WWE copyright if he's in that new game

Obviously his demons have gotten the best of him and he can't be trusted/counted on in a professional capacity. Poor guy. Extremely smart guy, fantastic psychology and promos that stand the test of time.

man his promos are unreal - i love how he just boils everytinh down to the nurs and bolts of the matter - good guy is good cause of this - bad guy is bad guy cause of this - i'll make you hate me if i'm the bad guy or love me if i'm the good guy.

i seriously believe there was noone better at this than him.

put it this way i'm not in any way religious and generally dont have much time for those who are overtly so but damn it if i didnt really want old born again christian preacher ass jake roberts to win kotr that time and was upset that he didnt.

but i loved his attitude in the ring - always make everyone look like a superstar - if only this was still the philosophy of the WWE - why oh why do they constantly bury talent?!??!

if you could get him to stay clean and sober for his mind alone he'd be priceless.

Jake the Snake went to a WWE paid programme to help him with his addictions only a year or so back and, to all reports, is no longer the wreck he once was but nor is he completely drug and alcohol free. He is retired now or retiring soon as a wrestler.

He wasn't treated all that well by McMahon in his prime. One main-event push scrapped cause the fans cheered for him instead of Hogan, one main event push scrapped cause the Warrior was a arsehole and Pat Patterson's spot on the creative team retired despite being promised to him.

He didn't need any title to get over and be a draw but he would have been one of the greatest World Champions in history if he had gotten the chance. Makes the current lot look amatuerish and second rate.

Randy Orton is the poor-mans Jake Roberts.

Pretty sure he's hung up his boots, yeah.

I'm not sure he could have really been a world champion, even in his prime. He could have been a bigger star than he was, but he didn't really need the belt to get his persona of a dangerous customer over. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Randy Orton was consciously trying to channel Roberts - and again, Orton is a guy who doesn't need the belt and the 'champ is here' persona to stay over.

In any sober shoot interview - and some that I'm pretty sure weren't sober in the slightest - he's the most genuinely insightful commentator on in-ring and outside-the-ring work I've ever heard. I'd include Bret Hart's (pretty interesting) shoots in that too. Unfortunately, even if he is at a stage now where he can reliably make a contribution, WWE's brand has drifted so far away from the snake that I just couldn't see it happening.

Hard to believe Austin was so hated at the time, he's not getting a good response, although Jake Roberts should have won....the crowd loved the man (for a KOTR final it's pretty short at about 4 minutes and change)

always my favourite wrestler as a kid, there was just something about the man that you couldnt take your eyes off him. played both a face and heel brilliantly but even as a face he had a tweener thing going on long before Austin did. His entrance music was amazing as well.
