I know its a long shot but the clutch just went in my Passat. Its a 2006 but only has about 45k miles on it. Obviously its out of warranty but do you think I'd have any chance getting VW to cover some of the cost given that the clutch should last much longer then 45k?

To be honest I'd say you have no chance at all. Its well out of warranty and they'll say it must be your driving style. 45k is well enough time to burn out a clutch on your own.

I doubt it, the life of a clutch is dependant on the use/abuse it gets.

Clutch is a wear and tear item and wouldn't be covered usually anyway unless there was a proven fault.

I'd change the driving style with the new one!

No chance, it's a wear and tear item. If it was some major engine failure and you had the full VW service history they may cover some costs.

Not with a clutch I'd say,it'd be usually considered as a wear and tear item.

Very early in a car's life for the clutch to go,do you do any towing, drive hard, etc.?

Car is not driven hard at all, at its not actually worn out, something is broken that is preventing it from disengaging.

Don't think its the hydraulics as the pedal still has plenty of resistance. Local mechanic thinks something is broken inside and it will need a new clutch.

Ahh well, sounds like I'll have to bite the bullet on this one anyway.

Just hope its not the Flywheel!

Did you buy the car new?

The drivers seat look svery worn for 45k or is it just the pictures?

Didn't buy new but I bought from Fostor Motors when it had about 25k and where it was bought new and had been serviced from new and I have serviced there since.

Think its the material (alcantera) that makes it look that way in the pics.
