ok well im not sure if this is the right forum, but hey, its to do with biology :)
well im currently in 3rd year, and i have a very strong interest in science, particularily Biology, so much so that i have already bought my L.C biology book and im starting to study it already, i got 100% in my science mock :)
i know for definite that i want to do biology in college, and i know in general what is to be expected, but could someone who did it in college just give me an idea of what sort of things you study etc?
i have an idea of what courses im interested in: in DCU: genetics and cell biology, microbiology
    DIT: biomedical science
UCD: microbiology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and molecular biology or biomedical health and life sciences
:) any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Speaking as someone who has done an undergraduate and masters degree in UCD, I might be able to give you some insight. I did the pure biochemistry degree and did most of the classes for cell and molecular biology and genetics.

The first year is is fairly easy, mostly just rehashing stuff from leaving cert biology and chemistry. 2nd year is a bit harder as it goes more in depth and some of the lab work gets harder. 3rd and 4th year are without question the most difficult. In 3rd year, the labs become intense and you'll have a lot of reports to write up as well as a lot of theoretical learning to do from a mixture of books and proper scientific papers from scientific journals. In 4th year, you'll do your thesis, spending about 11-12 weeks in the lab. At that stage, you'll be getting all your information for exams from scientific papers and will hardly do any learning from books (if at all). It's quite difficult but very rewarding if you have an interest in science.
