BMW 320d M Sport or Audi A4 (2003)

Having just switched from A4 to 530d myself - BMW, without a shadow of a doubt.
Advantage of the A4 where it comes to parts is high commonality with Passat. Still not cheap for either car though.

Yeah, I switched from a Yaris to a Skyline, I'd have to say Nissan are much better than Toyota...

I'd consider the 3 Series, and I'd run a mile from the A4.

No word on history for the BM, seems very expensive for what it is too; an 8yr old 100k miler.

There's plenty fat in the price.

I would be seriously apprehensive about buying a modified B6 A4 especially from someone who has put AMG alloys on it.

    77mpg..... lol

The A4 is a winner for the skangermobile thread. Tossy would love it as she is pure felt spec.

The Bimmer is a winner for dreamer of the year.

Another RS4 TDi. Why do owners do this, it is so daft.

Both are overpriced too and no service history. I wouldn't bother with either of them.

Find a decent Audi A4 Quattro, better than either an Audi A4 FWD or BMW 320d.

    €8,500?! LOL

Surely you could find something better for that much....

That A4 looks like a right heap of dirt. Of those two cars it's got to be the BMW no question.

That said, I wouldn't be buying a 320d with no service history, those cars have the potential to be huge money pits, and common problems include turbo and swirl flap failure(which writes off the engine), not to mention DMF, MAF and positive crankcase breather trouble too!

OP, have a look at different cars, those two are far from the best cars available. Service history, especially in the 3 series, is essential.

This! 3 Series looks a far better car in that generation. A4 is horrible.

E46 arguably better than B7, but anything is better than this Felt abomination :D.

BWM diesel E46...common problems are the exhaust centre box and the turbo.

I've just spent €2,500 getting a near engine rebuild on mine (2003) after the main stealer failed to replace the crankcase breather at 100K causing the turbo to fail.

€8K is silly money, €4K is nearer the mark. Make sure you get a full service history.
