FF councillor to complain about Ming's drug use

Councillor to make complaint over Ming's illegal drug use

    By Eimear Ni Bhraonain

    Thursday March 17 2011

Fianna Fail councillor John Coonan is writing to gardai about Luke 'Ming' Flanagan.

A GROUP of councillors have said that South-Roscommon TD Luke 'Ming' Flanagan's personal use of a drug was his own business.

Their colleague, Kilkenny councillor John Coonan, is to make a formal complaint to gardai about the new TD, who openly admits smoking cannabis and growing it for personal use.

Mr Flanagan should not be given special treatment -- and he should be dealt with for breaking the law, according to the Fianna Fail councillor.

Mr Coonan -- a former psychiatric nurse -- is writing to gardai and Taoiseach Enda Kenny to express his concerns about Mr Flanagan's use of the drug.

A formal complaint will increase pressure on gardai to investigate Mr Flanagan.

Ten years ago, Mr Flanagan sent 500 cannabis joints to Irish politicians as part of his campaign to legalise the drug.

"I was gobsmacked that I didn't get support. Everybody made the point that Ming is an able and articulate man. That is not the point," said Mr Coonan.

"Gerry Ryan was a fantastic broadcaster but, unfortunately, he is not with us anymore. I'm not comparing Ming to anybody -- but Gerry Ryan is an unfortunate case and point of what illegal drugs can do."

Mr Coonan believes Mr Flanagan is sending out the wrong signal to young people, who will think it is acceptable to use illegal drugs.

"It would be remiss of me if I didn't express, as a public representative and a retired clinical nurse manager, my concern about this," he said.

Mr Flanagan did not return calls from the Irish Independent yesterday.

During a meeting of Kilkenny Borough Council, Mr Coonan said cannabis had "harmful side effects".

He said the same rule of law should apply to Mr Flanagan as to ordinary citizens.

"I know one of the most serious side effects of cannabis is depression. It is illegal for a reason. There are a lot of young people who I have seen suffer because of this drug. There's no such thing as a harmless illegal drug."

    - Eimear Ni Bhraonain

Ok, first off, I think that Luke 'Ming' Flanagan is a decent, hardworking young man and will make a good TD. Whatever he does in his own time is really his own business.

Secondly, where was councillor John Coonan when some of his Fianna Fail colleagues and the rest of the golden circle were breaking the law?

Thirdly, the FF councillor seems to compare canabis with Gerry Ryan's cocaine problems..... For a psychiatric nurse, he obviously doesn't know very much about illegal drugs!

This stunt just seems like 'sour grapes' to me. What do ye think?

In my personal opinion, Mr. Coonan should go and f*ck himself.

I have nothing against Ming or cannabis... but by him harping on about smoking and growing it he's inviting trouble on himself imo

You mean like that Judge who was arrested, but never convicted, for a child porn because of a technicality.

Or the TD who was caught drunk driving, but wasn't even fined.

Or Bertie Ahern and all his "brown paper bags"

    Or Haughey.

Let's face it, there are dozens of cases of Government officials getting away with much much much worse crimes, to arrest Ming for this would be a complete joke.

FF lowlife looking for guarda investigations to be opened.

    Oh the irony.....

That is essentially the beauty about Ming...............He has gone on about the legalisation about cannabis for years and has never hidden the fact that he himself smokes it regularly!!!

Even when he is elected he will not do like the other shower of cnuts and pretend he has given up the cannabis to be "seen" to be a good influence....Still laughing at the irony of a FF man harping on about this:eek:

I personally couldn't give a flying if he is stoned all day long but has the interests of the Irish public at heart.

For too long we have been run by a lying shower of well groomed, "Law abiding" politicians who have conned us left, right and center....

For me, Ming's stance on cannabis is not the issue here at all but the fact that the man already is not turning into a lying gobsh1te to fit into Dail life....

He's made his position clear, I haven't heard him harping on about it, everyone else is harping on about it and then blaming him for their own conversation.

FF dredging the fear factor again.

Because it's his gimmick. He feels like his strategy should be "aw I'm a bleedin' stoner and a MAD ONE at dat lads!".

He should be in jail for making a mockery of the election but... this is Ireland after all.

Hahaha, didn't see Fianna Fail calling the Gardai when they and their crony mates were destroying the country, or when Bertie was pilling up those brown envolopes. But a young and hard-working new politician, who is at least trying to help fix the mess they made is a fair target.

The Fianna Fail party and it's TDs are absolute filth and the sooner they cease to exist, the better.

I'm guessing you have never heard him even speak.

And maybe you would be so kind to explain how someone should be jailed for making a 'mockery' of an election?

    As Ming said himself:

"It's not me who's obsessed with drugs, it's the other political parties, they're the ones who talk about it all the time, I just smoke it"

Being a former psychiatric nurse I'm sure he's well aware that alcohol is more dangerous than cannabis, of course I doubt that stops him from having a pint.

I'd say they're just pissed off that they have nothing on Luke yet have much to hide themselves.

He was a known cannabis smoker and he got elected into Dail by the people. They knew what he stood for and what he will help to achieve.

    FF running scared.

How the hell is it a gimmick? It would be a fairly stupid gimmick as he could be prosecuted. It seems that he realises that its a stupid law which causes major problems for this country and he's taking a stand against it. I respect that. Unlike other politicians who only really look out for themselves and engage in their illegal activities outside of the public eye. And trust a FF c unt to come out and say something...surprise, surprise!

This is what those pricks have to resort to now. Scumbags!

did it ever occur to Wanker Coconut that fianna fail has sent the wrong message to the young people of this country. ff has sent a message to all and sundry thats its ok to be fraudulent and to steal. One would be awarded for doing so. Maybe he should seriously consider going after ff, if he wants to set a good example for the country.

I saw the programme where he happily admits his "relaxation" is smoking a joint.

His basic idea is "I do drugs, elect me and we can all do drugs!".

If admitting to breaking the law and trying to get elected by breaking the law isn't making a mockery then I think next election I'll run for it and say "I like speeding down the street while pissed outta me head, vote for me and you can do it too!".

We all have different opinions and you're gonna get to have the last word :)

But my opinion is he's a piece of **** and should be locked up and left to rot; he wants to get elected by using the tactic of "I break the law, vote Ming!".

    *facepalm*

    You have to be joking...

I want to have murder made legal, do I murder someone, admit it and then ask people to vote so it's legal?

No, you don't do things like that but people seem to think Ming is some sort of modern day saint fighting for the rights of the people.

Except he blatantly admitted to breaking the law.

Anyway, the guy is scum and I'm done arguing about him, I know he is and I'm happy with my opinion.

So... Ming willingly breaks the law on a regular basis and his gimmick (and it is a gimmick) is "vote me, I smoke weed, I'll get it made legal" and he's not scum?

    Sure.

Look, bottom line is if he felt so strongly about the law, surely he would want to prove he doesn't need to smoke it but he just wanted to be one of the lads and personally, I'll wait till he gets thrown in jail so I can smile.

Oh and anyone else who quotes me, please note I won't be replying to you; any thread about this guy causes way too much trouble.

there's a big difference between breaking the law by smoking a joint and recklessly endangering the lives of those around you
