I know this is a pretty random thread but im curious, does anyone else out there know what they want to do with their lives yet? College/Job wise
Ive always known ive wanted to do something with science, but i never knew what sort of courses etc. were out there, and all my friends know what they want to do, and i was getting sick of the 'so what do you want to do when u leave school' question, so last week i went and blitzed the internet looking at college courses etc, just to get an idea, and im so glad i did it, because now i have a goal to work towards, id love to go to either UCD, DCU or DIT to study biology, and i know i shouldnt tie myself down to one idea this early in life, but i looovvee the look of the Genetics and Cell Biology course in DCU :O it looks amazing :)
so how about the rest of you?

I was thinking of starting a thread about this:)
Im going into 5th year this september(not doing TY) so people have been like ''What do you want to do after school''
I've been thinking about either Business, Economics and Social Science in Trinity(BESS) or Philosophy, Political Science, Economics and Sociology(PPES) in Trinity.
Theyre both have a lot of the same subjects, but BESS has Business and a Language/or Law module. And PPES has 2 philosophy modules.
So i kind of want to look into the Business and Philosophy stuff to see which one i would prefer.

i know someone who does BESS, apperently its very hard to get into, but she loves it! she told me before that the law module is great, and shes thinking about doing a masters in it haha

Hopefully I'm doing TY. I was looking at courses last week and was thinking of Law and Irish in UCC or Law and German in Trinity. I would like to do Irish but it being in Cork would be a difficulty :/

I'm hoping to do french, history and english. I was interested in physchology for a while too, but I've decided to go into secondary teaching. :)
There's a course though that does french, history, english and physchology called the Arts Module or something like that, and I'm probably going to do that.

    Hi,

I am in my 2nd year of genetics and cell biology. I LOVE IT! it can be hard, but trust me, if you done 2 hours a week on the weekend and went to lectures, your certain to pass. DCU is great, full stop. The course? first year is quite general and just ok. this year we start to specialise in genetics and cell biology. 3rd and 4th year it only gets better with the likes of cloning and genetic mapping etc. However, in GCB we don't get as much lab experience as others in science, in our first 2 years. This makes getting a job in INTRA in 3rd year quite hard, i hear. But, in sayin that, a new era of biopharma is in progress, where genetics and biology is key, this is an industry worth billions. People who do GCB normally go on to do a postgrad of some sort as it is a very specialised subject. So keep that in mind.:)

If you did Irish my dad might be lecturing you. :P That's so weird aha.

As for me, I think I'd be interested in either law or maybe something along the lines of Zoology science... I'm not really sure yet. I'm doing TY next year anyway so that might help me make a decision. :)

:pac: That's mad ! Yeah I got into TY and almost definetly want to do something with Irish in College.

Skipping TY, and I think I want to do medicine (mhmmm another one, real original, I know), I'm not naiive enough to think it's gonna be easily achieved, or even that my aims won't change, they more than likely will over the next two years. Other than that, I think I'd love to do Psychology almost as much, followed by other health sciences courses, such as Occupational Therapy/Radiation Therapy/Physiotherapy and I think doing Science would be great too. I used to want to do History in some shape or form, but I've decided not to do it for Leaving Cert so that idea is gone. I also want to look into Law more, same with English, and even Maths. Oh, and French too.

The more I write the more confused I get. I like pretty much everything, except Geography and Home Ec, so I'll have no shortage of second choices. I highly doubt I'll end up repeating anyway, I'd be delighted to study any of the above. :)

Intriguing topic, but a small number of replies, why am I not suprised? I usualy put a long line about how bad facebook is, but it's late, lets just skip to the chase.

Well I always wanted to do 2 things - just normal simple business here in Ireland, maybe promotion/advertising? definetely not accounting, I'm terrible at it.

And second, a weird business branch called "transport solutions & managing a fleet" unfortunately it's not possible to do this in Ireland. I don't know about England, but I was considering Italy, Germany and Poland. It's quite a hard topic but it's my hobby, and "if you do what you like it's not really work" . Anyway, it's funny that in Ireland the most similar topic at WIT lasts 1 year and there's basicly nothing on it, and in mainland Europe it's 3-4 years long and you have to know minimum 4 languages(nah, Irish doesn't count).

Also I have left myself a backdoor, in case someting doesn't work out.

Remember - Future is ours and it's up to us what we do with it!
