If getting white fillings done, is the material used by most Irish dentists generally the same material?

Or is there a [significant?] difference in the material used?

    Thanks!

yes there are big differences in quality, strength and cosmetic result usually dependent on the way it is put in and the type/brand of composite filling used.

Any suggestions on what I should ask dentists concerning the type/brand of composite filling which they use?

i had white composite fillings put in about 10 years ago and had to have them replaced with metal fillings about 5 years later as they just didn't last.

You will generally know if the dentist uses good materials if you have been there a few times, personally I use HFO composites, they are at the expensive end to buy but they look fantastic. Every dentist uses and prefers different materials though.

Hi I hope someone can advise me. My molar was filled twice with metal filling and the tooth is nearly worn away due to grinding. I got six hfo build ups last year and my dentist suggested I get one for my molar. So I'm looking around for other dentists that use this material. My own dentist is very expensive so if anyone can recommend any others in the city or nearby, would be great. Thank you.

White filling materials are all basically chemically the same, however there are differences in their strength, appearance, polish-ability, wear resistance and shrinkage.

There are some really cheap inferior materials but any good dentist would not use those.

Its a bit like asking if all bricks are the same cause you want to build a wall. The bricks are one factor, but the most important thing is the person doing the work. A good operator will use good materials. A good operator will also use know the value of their work.

White fillings on average do not last as long as silver fillings, this is due to the technical properties of the materials which have improved over the years but still are not as tolerant of adverse conditions as the silver amalgam.
