CA8-2 custom job

My brother is selling his CA8-2 that hes only fired about 20 bbs through since he bought it. Im thinking of buying it from him and upgrading it and turning it into a nice support gun/sniper.

First thing I want to do is remove the crappy built in scope and add a top rail and scope, then also add a front rail and this is where I need a bit of help. Can you actually get a rail system to keep the length of the body the same?

I'm also assuming that G36 rails will be compatible with this?

Im thinking of something like this but with a drum mag:

    sl8sniper.jpg

Once I can source the externals ill move onto the internals which would also appreciate suggestions for. :)

you can pick up a G36C K flat rail to mount a scope that will fit no probs not sure about the rails system shown, bi pods are easy to pick up, internals a good hop up rubber ,tight bore barrel will give you range and accuracy , a good good high torque motor and decent battery will give fast trigger response on semi shooting and good rof on full auto ,

    Is that a "G36C rail" or "G36K" rail? or is it a "G36C K rail" ?

it looks like a K lenght rail ,the C lenght rail is shorter, you can pick up a specific sl8 top rail from ehobbyasia ,Star/Ares brand make them

Thats A C rail, note the gasparts protrude at the front?

What you need for that gun pictured:

C RAS for g36, a regular g36 with sights removed, or KSK toprail
    Mp7 flip up iron sights.
    VLTOR bipod
    scope... not sure, personal preference?
And ebaybanned have a flashhider similar to that one.

As for a drum mag.... 'sniper/support' comment as well makes me want to cry and mumble about saving children from such a horrid crossbread... oh well I said it, gun looks deadly, but the dual role.... *shuts up* hehe

Lol, i know i know, sniper/support. What can I say i like the idea of sniping but semi autos or bolt actions don't really work for me. Due to a weak eye I have to use my left eye which means the bolt is on the 'wrong' side so its a little awkward.

My main is an M4 so this is more so a side project that'll be a bit of fun and a bit OTT.

Thanks for the suggestions tho, ill do some more browsing.

Don't take me seriously on the gripe, im just having fun. Fairysnuff on the leftie part, though there is a left hand bolt for the vsr... :P

Ah hey not to worry, I take very little stuff seriosuly anyway i have a theory that ill live longer that way :D

Didn't know they had diff side bolts though. Its a bit of a pain because I should be holding it with right hand on the trigger so gotta watch out for hand grips when buying too.

You said that i would need a regular G36, would none of these mods work on the CA8?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

No, the grip is the same, its just the bolt head that swaps, and its easier to use left hand on trigger when leftieing it. no?

As for the mods... no no... I meant regular style g36 flat rail for the top, as oposed to the long sl9 one. This all works on the sl8 you have :)

Ah sorry, i reread your 1st post, I get ya now.

Left hand on trigger is easier ya. But shopping for guns that are moulded for right hands is a pain, have to find ambidextrous ones.

That's one ugly shooty stick, however if it aids you in your quest, I'm sure I saw a QD rail riser like the one shown the other day, I'll go find a link!

most boltguns are ambi really, as is the g36... oh well, thats lucky! (im ambidextrous myself, so use either hand and eye depending on situation, so I kinda get where you're coming from.

One of my mates was around today with his G36c so we did a bit of swapping about to see what it might look like when I get the parts. Will definitely get the longer K rail for the front as it looks a little stubby.

The optical and red dot was just to make it a bit ridiculous.

Thing fires like a dream so will need very little interior work. Will get it out for a skirmish in the next couple of weeks to see how it performs in the field.

If you wanted, you could go for a Full 36 ras, and extend the barrel with a silencer, giving you more internal barrel length, and a sexy look...

and star do 5 rounder (20 airsoft) short mags?

Oh a silencer is a must, the current barrel is too plain and I'm not mad on the flash hider that comes with the k foregrip/ras kit.

Stock this comes with a 6.04mm barell, is this considered a tightbore? Or is that 6.03 and smaller? (I'm new to this whole tightbore stuff)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

yeah 6.04 is a tightbore, thats mm, stock are 6.08ish mm.
hmm, may buy the stock ris flashhider off you if you want rid :D I need one for my sa80 (if its the vortex type I think it is)

Ya thanks, sure pm me your fb details.

I was looking around last night and I think im gonna try to source the origianl G36 ras (not K) so it'll be full lenght. Ares do all the parts that I want (long barell with class looking silencer) but I cant seem to find the stuff in stock anywhere (especially the barell) Any ideas of where might stock ares stuff?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Not sure the ares will fit the CA... they make them differently... including thread directions. All my ares stuff is built differently to other manufacturer's variants.

Bugger, i was actually gonna send them an email to see if it would fit the CA.

    The search begins again....

Thought I'd post a few pics of the progress of this for anyone interested. Ive had to settle for not finding the long ras that I want, they seem to have existed at one point a few years ago but are all out of production now.

I couldn't find any decent reviews for a box/drum mag so went for 3x high caps.

Still to come is a longer cable to connect battery into the peq and a riser rail to bring the red dot over the peq box.
